First trip offshore - what do i take
Discussion
Got a start on an FPSO next week, first trip offshore and was hoping someone could give me an idea of what to take with me.
I've read to take 4/5 pairs of underwear/socks, toiletries, cheap t-shirts, couple pairs of joggers and gear for the gym.
Also read i can take my mobile and a laptop. I don't own a laptop but assuming ok to take an ipad?
What sort of bags do people take, been looking at large lightweight rucksacks. I have bags but they are really big gym bags and i understand i need to keep the weight down.
Thanks

take a couple of half decent size gym bags, use one for your PPE and one for your clothes dont take any suit cases no matter how small choppers dont like them & no bags with wheels either
you will get your clothes washed every night in the laundry however always take spares as they do go missing sometimes
so at least 4 days under wear a few t's a few pairs trackys etc and if you plan on using the gym take gym gear and i would take a spare pair of trainers for the gym
flip flops are normally banned on all rigs now unless your in the suna
taking your ipad, phone laptop is fine just decalre it at check in and when offshore it will need to be tested prior to being plugged in for charging and of course its not allowed outside on the plant
declare any meds you take with you at check in even if its vitamins or body buiding powder etc
take some cash with you as there is a bond (shop) on board that sells sweets crisps juice fags deoderant shaving foam razors perfume t shirts socks etc etc

Wasn't sure if my PPE would already be on the rig as i'm going Adhoc. Going to speak to the company today to check this, i'm guessing PPE will need picking up from them if that's the case.
Just wanted to check to see what to take as read different reports on weight limits, what not to take, how many bags etc but it seems to vary.
I've never been offshore but I'm in the industry...
The barge will have medical facilities but it can be useful to have a small stash of electrolite drinks or Baroccas etc just for when you wake up feeling a bit st / dehydrated. If you're spending a lot of time outside you'll probably find yourself wanting sun cream, skin and hand moisturiser at some point.
Remember that any PPE they provide you with will be boggo stuff so check what they're going to give you and buy your own higher quality items if you think it's going to get on your nerves- Boots, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection.
Again they'll probably provide you one or stash one in the cabin but a flashlight can be indispensible.
Good pair of earphones, plenty of TV shows / films / music / literature in your tablet or laptop.
Aside from all the practical things, I'd say that you should take some personal effects including a full address book with telephone numbers and addresses. Things happen to mobiles. Might be nice to have some pictures of the people and things you care about, even if it's just an ice breaker for non-English speakers you might work with.

PPE is usually supplied by the company if you ad-hoc or working thru an agnecy then the agency i know (petrofac) supply PPE

Yes, i've read to take sun cream and moisturiser. I will probably be outside a lot as i'm there on Production side for shutdown and start up of the plant, PTW's etc. It's a 6 month Adhoc post so i'm guessing they want me around for full shutdown and start up.

Is it UK sector or overseas? I think UK/Norway now requires minimum 3 layers for travelling too. I wouldn't bother with sunscreen if Uk based...I've read to take 4/5 pairs of underwear/socks, toiletries, cheap t-shirts, couple pairs of joggers and gear for the gym.
