Anyone had any experience of setting one of these up particularly from the insurance perspective ?

less than 8 seats = private hire vehicle

more than 8 seats = Bus, and therefore Operators licence, operating centre, un restrcited cat D driving licence and driver CPC

As above. Make sure you know the legislation backwards.

I operate a similar concept but in a different arena. Have a MASSIVE point of difference and a niche otherwise you'll burn cash quickly. The market is saturated with the world and his wife operating a Viano / Sprinter and it's a race to the bottom on margin.

How will your offering be different?

exactly - I know of a number of operators who to 'keep the wolf from the door' are doing runs at all times of day and night for employment agencies to take agency staff to work places which are un/ underserved by public transport...
