Bid Management - APMP?

The opportunity to move my career into Bid Management has come up at work.
Until i started doing it in a junior capacity for my current employer i had no experience, but now my more experienced colleague has moved on the whole responsibility has moved to me.
I'm confident that i can maintain the current quality, but i know that personally and as a business we're capable of better, given a bit of direction.
Has anyone with relevant experience got an opinion on the APMP membership & certification?
