I may need to get a CRB check, or is it now called a CBC?
I may be carrying out some work in a school, and the contractor I am working for has said I may have to provide one.
I can get one done and will have to show ID etc to the company doing the check, no problem there. However how does the CRB check come back, what format? What detail is on the check?
I'm a bit hesitant in providing forms with my personal detail on them, I give a copy to the contractor I'm working for, he then gives a copy to the main contractor, they then give a copy to ..... I end up with multiple copies of my details all over the place.

You could get one done yourself (I think).

All things considered, you might as well get the full one as it costs no more than the basic enhanced for children:
"enhanced DBS criminal record check and barred list check (both) - £44"
Oh, they require passport and two proofs of address (utilities, bank statements, credit card).

It checks your criminal record, etc.
Shouldn't be a problem for you to supply one, just redact your address perhaps? But in the big scheme of things, your employer already knows your address, this is just stating that you aren't a mad axe murderer with a penchant for six year old kids.

EFA.As a previous employer said to me when I presented to him a clean enhanced CRB, it's not worth the paper it's written on as it proves nothing, really.
I do a lot of work in schools and other similar environments - my ID badge has the CRB number (it was done in 2012 so still under the old system) on it. 95% of the time that is all a school wants to see. I do carry the certificate but rarely have to show it.

DBS is different from the old CRB in the fact it is transferable from position to position. Also they are able to make disclosures to your employer on the risk you may pose even if you have not been convicted of an offence. I won’t profess to know a huge amount about the new system but I know, you are either on the barring list or not any other information gained can be disclosed to your employer if they deem fit.
I am aware of a person who has had their child placed on the child protection register and this was considered as something that needed disclosing to their employer. They however had no criminal convictions and nothing would have been disclosed on a CRB

Coincidentally, my new DBS came through today.
So, the certificate will have your full name, address, DoB, Place of Birth, Gender, Job, Employer name, any police convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings, any lists you're on (no, just relevant lists). Ideally, it should be boring like mine and read "None recorded."
