Strange recruitment process

Before Christmas I turned down a job offer in order to follow a recruitment process at a far better fit of a company. I know employees inside this company and they all vouched for me with great reviews. My current boss had just left my current organisation, and he too was approached and gave a great reference.
I had an interview with the hiring manager - extremely positive, then the VP of operations in EMEA, extremely positive, and finally with the hiring managers counterpart in North America. A tough interview, but the feedback was good. I pushed for the final interview to happen quickly as both my organisation, and the hiring organisation were having annual kick off events on totally separate sides of the globe.
Immediately after my kick off event, I had a holiday booked - returning last Thursday. This was all communicated, and accepted that I should resign after the holiday, if successful. As everyone was meeting at their sales kick off, they would discuss the hiring process and I could expect an email imminently.
I heard nothing, I chased the recruiter who was evasive, saying he couldn't contact the hiring manager. Phoned the recruiter last Friday, and he was flustered, saying he didn't expect me home until after the weekend. He would chase the hiring manager.
I've still heard nothing, I've emailed the hiring manager requesting news, and chased the recruiter again demanding a 'no'. Silence.
It appears they are stalling, in the hope of finding other candidates. It's very puzzling as my good will towards the hiring company is diminishing rapidly (they are a technology partner of my current employer!).
Any thoughts?

Had a very similar thing happen to me.
Went for an interview with a company, senior position, good salary, interesting company. Interview went well, I'm in the final two for the role. Go back and it's a panel job, plus a presentation including direct boss, directors etc about six of them at one point. That goes well and I hear that the MD/Sales director wants to meet me.
I go along and have a chat and basically they really like me and think my unique combination of skills would be better used elsewhere in the company. This would be a new role create especially for me but he needs to organise the budget etc.
It all goes quiet.
I chase a few time and get told end of year, then budget negotiations then writing the job description etc
Goes quiet again.
I eventually heard from the RC and he said they had eventually decided I was too expensive but they were still looking for someone else to do the role.
Just weird.
I'd generally lost faith in them to deliver by that point anyway. If you get messed around and fed lines of bull at interview stage then I'm not sure I would want to work for them.

Yep had exactly the the same experience.
Interviewed for post abroad, they had an EU & UN contract, by VP Ops and MD. I get told I am the only man for the job, they wanted me to start straight away, please resign and start, blah blah blah. I said, great but give me a contract before I quit current post. Suddenly everyone gets evasive and never really answers the question on the contract but keeps saying quit and we will hire you. Needless to say that wasn't going to happen.
Many emails to them and recruiter with many stalling emails sent back telling me how they want me but this that and the other needs to be done 1st. After 8 months I gave up, told them I was no longer available and wished them well. They never filled the post and lost the contract. Morons.
