Hello all
Having been told my position is being made redundant after 10yrs, I am now going through the consultation period which is 30 days. I have asked for this to be reduced as the company have been told and the new position has been advertised. However they say it is company policy to keep it at 30 days.

My question is. I am allowed reasonable time off to go for interveiws, do I have to tell them who the interview is with if they ask?

Thanks
Barrie

Time off for job hunting

If you’ve been continuously employed for 2 years by the date your notice period ends, you’re allowed a reasonable amount of time off to:

look for another job
arrange training to help you find another job

How long you can take will depend on your circumstances.

No matter how much time you take off each week to look for another job, your employer only has to pay you up to 40% of that week’s pay for it.

Which new position are is advertised?
You are at risk but how big is the effected group and are their any roles being retained?

HR will be able and should have explained what their policy is on interviews, support and time off, msany are often very helpful.

Thanks for the replies. It is just my position that is being made redundant. They have advertised the new position for the restructure.
My question is, am I obliged to tell them with who I am attending interviews.
Thanks

Depends on your relationship with those giving your reference. If it's arms length HR, and the guy asking is your manager with whom you will have no further contact, feel free to tell them its Wetherspoons, or MI5.

If its the Chairman, and he's a mate, why not tell him - he may know the Chairman of your target firm, and put a good word in for you.

So there are no other roles for you to apply for?
If you are in effected group of one, they might just put a compromise agreement and pay you the 30 days and what ever package they are proposing.
You really need to speak to HR. I'd be very surprised if they minded who you were speaking to, they are letting you go.

is it a large organisation you work for?

It is a very large organisation and they have said that should a suitable roll become available I would be more than welcome to apply. So hopefuly something will turn up.
Thanks

How different is the new job? If it's not a lot different to the one you're doing now they're being a bit shoddy with you, frankly.

They have down sized the roll also requiring different skills making it less mangerial and more hand on, paying less.

Employment lawyers will be along but I'm pretty sure if it's substantially the same role then they should have offered it to you, even at the lower rate.

How likely is a nice shiny new job? If reasonably so, get updating the CV, and polishing the interview technique. Make sure the first one is one you wouldn't mind NOT getting - a bit of practice is a very good thing.

In terms of loyalty, your ten years service obviously means SFA, so you might as well take the package and go and find a better job biggrin

How many roles/ people are being made redundant and how many roles are being created? What numbers are on the HR1?

Sometimes HR/ management do things in a strange manner in order to get an org structure they want.....

indeed as if the subtext that the affected group is 1 person and the new role is just a downgrading re-cast of the previous role it really shouldn;t be advertised unless there's a reason for the OP to be made redundant...
