Anybody on here working in the oil and gas industry as an engineer in the south west? I am considering a move from aerospace where I am currently contracting. I have lots of transferable skills but am looking for my first "in".

There are a couple of companies in Portishead, ge at nailsea, and Schlumberger at Stonehouse.

I have had contact with ge and Schlumberger a few times, they have contacted me through LinkedIn. A friend from work has just gone to ge, so no reason why you shouldn't be able to change sector.

Have you thought about one of the many Engineering Consultancies in Bristol? If you pick the right ones you would be able to use your existing skills and build upon them by working in a variety of sectors.
I recommend Frazer-Nash Consultancy, there are others but some are organised along sector facing departments and so do not offer so much opportunity for multi sector work.

I contract to GE Oil & Gas who have a base in Nailsea, I believe they are exceptionally busy at the moment so maybe check out their careers website:

Defiantly talk to GE. I work with some of their clients, on time-critical projects. GE's biggest difficulty in delivering stuff to challenging schedule is lack of engineering resources. I have heard that it is also causing issues with developing new products and technology.
