Motor Trade to Recruitment

Whilst it is a difficult sector to succeed in, it is certainly possible and with a background in sales, I would suggest that would almost equal or outweigh a graduate status for many recruitment firms.
In terms of sector, Automotive would be the obvious choice, however it largely comes down to your personality and background. E.g. would you feel more comfortable dealing with senior level management in the Financial sector, or engineers within technical organisations.
The qualities required in most sectors do overlap somewhat, so it is not unusual for newbies to change sector 1 or 2 times before they find their 'niche' and begin to achieve real success.

Go for it mate! I was considering moving from sales into something different and recruitment was one of the careers I considered. Looking at the job ad's they didn't seem to be interested in my 20+ years worth of sales experience, but just graduates or previous recruitment experience. Good luck!
Hi mate - having recently been through a job search, you'll be happy to know that there are plenty of sales job out there for the right people, you shouldn't struggle to find something.
Having said that, why would you hand in your notice prior to having some first round interview to get a feel for what's available?
I was always told not to hand in notice until the new contract has been signed!

Very good advice. Particularly the bit about not putting in your notice until you have a new contract.
We've taken on people with sales experience (software & motor) before who've fallen flat on their face. The problem is with recruitment is that you're not selling a product. you're selling an individual a job or a client your services, neither of which may be interested. Gaining credibility as a recruiter is bloody difficult and you can work yourself into the ground and make no money from doing so.

I worked in the motor sales and made the move to recruitment 2 years ago. My only regret is I didn't do it sooner, I specialise in driving jobs and absolutely love my job. Best of luck to you.

Yes but for every one of you (who made a move from whatever to recruitment) who made a success of recruitment there are dozens who can't hack it.AshCos said:

So you didn't move into recruitment?I made the move 1st of Sep last year, albeit not from the Motor Trade but a sales background and I am really enjoying it, specialising in Legal.
