Sales bonuses after leaving job

Just wondering, I was in sales job that i left before year end. We had a sales bonus scheme that I signed last year with targets i was needed to work against. I achieved all my targets but than left the job for another. When I asked employer about the sales bonus, the answer was because I am leaving before year end than I am not entitled to bonuses even if I achieve the targets. They say that this is in the rules of the bonus scheme, but when I signed it there was no rules shown or explained, just the paper with the targets.

Where do I stand ?

Always leave after bonus day when moving jobs… to do so before is stupid.

Bonuses always say you must be in employment from X date to Y date to claim the bonus.
