I am basically in this position.
The company I work for has been taken over, I have been there for 13 years now so a redundancy payout would have been worth a few quid to me.

Now the company has been taken over, there are rumblings going around of redundancies, we all had a feeling it would pan out this way in the end.

Does job continuity come into play so I would stand to receive the same payout or would I essentially be starting from scratch again in the new company? Or does it vary from company to company dependent on policy?

If the company has been taken over by someone else, you should have been transferred to the new company under TUPE?

This means that all your contractual benefits and length of service, etc have been carried over.

Muzzer is right, I've been through this earlier in the year, give ACAS a ring, they give out excellent free advice.

Depends - if the business of a company (including employees)is bought then the employees would transfer under TUPE to a new company. There would have been a consultation involved if this route was followed.

If the shares in a company are bought (i.e. the legal entity) then the employee's employer is still with the same entity and (unless otherwise altered) remains unchanged.

In either event, continuity of employment is preserved.
