Potential job role change

Hi folks

So my boss has approached me today and has asked me to go away and think about a new proposal for a new role within our small IT support company.

I am currently an IT technician with 18 months of experience and a good set of courses behind me (Cisco CCNA, CompTIA + etc). In my eyes I am doing very well for someone who hasn't come from an IT background. I get a lot of satification when I have fixed an issue/ set something up completely new to me or just learning, I really do enjoy that aspect of my job.

Now the boss approached me today and has asked if I would like to do a full time sales role. From what I have gathered so far it will include;

- Cold calling potential new customers
- Arranging meetings with clients
- Marketing
- Pushing brand awareness

Ok this is my background but I left it for a reason, I absolutely despise doing sales. I have always done well from it and it seems to come naturally to me, but I find it so dull. Oh and don't start me on cold calling.

It would appear that my boss is very keen for me to take on this new position and drop IT support. Now I really enjoy working for my boss as he is a great guy and I love my job, so I don't want to make things awkward when I say that I am not interested in the new role.

I am really struggling on the best way to handle this predicament and would really appreciate some advice. I have spoken with my parents (who are sales people through and through) and they want me to take it.

Thankyou for the kind offer; I'm flattered to be asked but I'm really enjoying what I'm doing now. I hope to be able to continue to add value in this role and in fact was hoping to chat to you about some ideas I had about expanding it.

Or something along those lines.
