Its a long shot - Looking for temporary work

Evening all,

I am currently without work - long story, but all due to a mistake by my new prospective employer.

I have been at home since the beginning of June and enjoyed looking after my young children over their summer vacation. I had finances as my previous employer kindly offered me a golden handshake, when I left the company.

Now the kids are back at school and the golden handshake has dried up, I am sick of waiting at home for my new job. We are waiting for security clearance to transfer. Life is fast becoming difficult as I am starting to dig into savings in order to pay the bills.

I had to ask my retired parents to help out and requested a large overdraft from the bank yesterday. Its all a far cry from the glory days when i worked for Nokia..... Actually, It’s really starting to affect me and I feel powerless.

Anyway, it’s a long shot, but does anyone on here have/or know of any work temporary or permanent? My main skills are project management, telecommunications and defence, but i am willing to do anything and will work from minimum wage levels.

Good point - I am based in Marlborough in Wiltshire, but happy to commute up to an hour for the right money.

Lots of shops are hiring for chrismas staff atm, if you can do night shifts you can expect £10 a hour to stack shelves.

The Royal Mail will pay you about £8/hr from ~mid-Nov until new year to shuffle letters and parcels in a big shed.

Are you sure you shouldn't be seeking another permanent job rather than temporary work?

Prospective employers can make all the promises they want but that's doing you no good sat at home unpaid, while they faff around waiting for 'contract details to be finalized'. Agencies are particularly prone to spouting such nonsense.

From personal experience I know that some jobs just never materialize, no matter what the employer/agency middleman says.

If the mistake was by your "potential" employer, can they not help you out?

It must be a flippin' good job to keep you on the hook for 3 months with no income.

Why should you devour your savings because they've made a mistake?

Do you have a confirmed job offer or...?
