Anyone know of any companies employing drivers in the UN, Afghan or similar. Seems to me its a difficult circle of jobs to uncover.

Dunno, KBR were a big civvy contractor type doing all kinds of stuff when I was out there.
They did all the catering, and a lot of the construction type jobs, so driving might be one of them.

The wages paid by KBR aren't worth the risk IMO- circa $4-5000US/month is a pittance for the environment you'd possibly be expected to work in.

A very good mate works, or worked in the green village for a few years up until very recently as they've made a load of guys redundant; going from what he's said, another company has won the contract so they're all looking at relocating to West Africa on another job.

I take it you've seen this though?

Trucks outside the wire are local companies paid by the likes of Exless and others.
There are no expats driving civilian trucks in Afghanistan. Any others trucks are mil.
