New Company Contract

Came home from work this week after spendning the day at a company meeting with all directors and the owner of the business to find a new contact on my door mat......I had no knowledge and no notification of this.
Not fully read or compared it yet but I have a couple of questions I hope some peeps can help with.
1. Can a company just send you a new contract to sign without notice?
2. They have not stated what will happen if the contact is refused and not signed.
3. It states that the "contract is for my consideration and if I wish to accept" to sign and return.
4. It states that the "offer is valid for 7 days" but give no information if date of letter or receipt or date pigs first fly.
5. They sent the contract first class so no confirmation that I have ever received so have I ever received it....?
6. They have changed my notice period from 1 month to 3 months and also changed my sick pay from full to SSP.

5. They sent the contract first class so no confirmation that I have ever received so have I ever received it....? - 1st class usually means service within 2 days.
6. They have changed my notice period from 1 month to 3 months and also changed my sick pay from full to SSP. - Have they recently merged with another company and perhaps aligning all benefits. 3 months notice if both ways could be seen as better terms but agree that SSP is not so good.
