I Want A Proper Job.....

Been out of full time salaried for almost three years & it's driving me nuts.
Got a part time job,working on an ad-hoc basis running bars at racecourses, hospitality events, weddings etc, however work is scarce & i havent been paid a salary since December 2010....
Love the buzz when i get a good job - did two weddings last week & had a blast at both - however there isnt any money in it & i need to earn some proper money & i need to earn a salary.
Earnings for the last two weeks, ignoring last weekends weddings, amounted to a little over £120.00!! Savings all gone, dont get any benefits (dont really want any but applied anyway) & i apply for numerous jobs every week without any success.
Interviews attended but no job offers from anyone.
Dont know what to do now tbh - 'advice' offered from the job centre is utterly useless & usually revolves around the words 'check the internet every day....' Tossers.
So do any PH's own a pub that needs a Head Bar man or a manager. I am open to serious offers as i have had some excellent training from my current employer which i need to put to good use.
Reluctant to stop working for them because of the work i have had in the past & because of the training & time they have invested in me however i need to move on - if i could find a job where my employer let me have days off to go racing that would be a bonus!!
However all i want is a job!!!!!!!

I quit because of a health issue i had (have) which required me to spend 4 hours in hospital.
BTW - the health issue does not pose a problem now because it has, hopefully, been resolved. That's all anyone on PH needs to know!!
Hardly call 10 hours a week salaried!

I googled pub manager jobs, there are hundreds, including opportunities to run a tenanted pub for Greene king or thwaites.
Head barman also hits heavily, as does shift manager.
I haven't even looked at catering events companies.
Not sure what the problem is to be honest.
Or have a look at Hotel Management. If you want to be on the other side, Diageo and Miller Brands are also hiring heavily in sales and account management.

I have applied for literally dozen of jobs over the past few weeks & had just three replies - one asking me to attend an intervioew for a job that i know i could do blindfolded only to be told that i was not qualified enough even though i had done the same job for 8 of the past 10 years for a similar business!!!)
The other email responses simply said that due to the overwhelming responses to the adverts my application had not been successful.
As for the rest - not a single word.
The joke centres offer no guidance at all - all they say is check the internet & they are so so far detached from the needs of real job-seekers that all of the job search computer terminals within the joke centre offices have now been dis-connected!!!!
So if you do not have internet access at home you are screwed.

What job do you really want, with what type of business. Who is the best person to find that Job. Is it an agency such as Reed. or do the have a head of HR or an in house recruitment person you can contact.
List ten companies you'd like to work for and look them up on Linked in and on there careers pages, do some research.
Write a nice crisp professional email, and brush up your CV. There are loads of free web pages with CV writing tips out there.
Frankly saying you could do the job standing on your head, shows either two things. One, your a great guy who can't sell his experience on paper and in applications, or your no where near as good as you think you are and you need to be realistic to get back into a stable job.

I might be offering advice which you already know, but the internet is a pain for getting jobs.
If you see an advert online, and if there is any sort of name or phone number (if just a name, you can usually google the headoffice and get the switchboard to put you through), phone them before you send CV. Tell them you are a bit worried because you are possibly over qualified, and you'd like to talk about the job before you apply so that you don't waste anyone's time. This is a 5 minute sell. If you are lucky, they tell you about the job and you ask them more questions whilst dropping in how you've done this and solved that etc.

I have focued on specific industries, specific companies etc & i do my homework prior to any interviews.
My CV was reviewed by a PH'r 12 months or so ago & he made some suggestions which i pout into place. Also had my CV reviewed again recently & it was been tweeked again.
I wasnt being arrogant when i said that i could do the job blindfolded. The staff agency who put me forward also aid that in their view i would be able to do the job without a problem & they were surprised that i didnt at least get called back for a second interview
The girl who got the job was 22 & hadnt worked in an office before so who knows where i went wrong. Maybe i dont have good enough legs or big enough boobs!!!!
The job i went for was a simple straight job exactly the same i had done between 1986 & 2001 (one job for all that time), 2001 & 2003 (one job) & between 2003 & 2010 (again one job during that period).
Between 1986 & 2010 i worked for just three companies, lost my job in 2010, went temping in 2011 & stared work on a zero hours contract for my current employer in 2012 so between 1986 & today i have had just 3 full time jobs, a couple of temporary jobs, a period of unemployment followed by one job so in answer to your question, no my cv does not look a little transitory
I went into a different trade in 2012 hoping to get some decent work out of it. I did for a while however bar staff are ten a penny these days hence i, along with dozens of others, am chasing fewer & fewer jobs & the work offered by my current employer has dwindled as they are suffering from a reduction in the number of bookings that they get.
I havent sat on my arse waiting for a job - i have gone out & done something totally new to me & i have watched, listened & learnt a lot from a number of people with many many years experience in the licensed trade.
Remedy - Sadly i dont live close to Warwick - i live in Gloucester which is an hour or so drive each way therefore unless someone pays my travel expenses (which is a non starter) a round trip of 100 or so miles each day is not cost effective but thank you anyway.
New POD - I agree that the net is not much use however mist jobs are advertised via on line web sites or through staff agencies so there isnt much i can do.
I have tried the phone call route but havent got anywhere.
Ok good responses, much more reasonable and my apologies if my guesses were a little off. There is usually a reason why people can't get hired.
I am afraid your age is against you, it is tough out there. But persistence is the key. can you PM me your CV please and I will take a look and see if I have any contacts out there that might be of use.

What about warehouse work or similar? Have you thought about relocating to another part of the country?
You're in your late 50's right? I only ask because my Dad was in a very similar position at a similar age. He was out of work for 3 months, tearing his hair out and wound up picking car parts in a warehouse doing nights. 12 hour shifts - 1900-0700; it drove him nuts.
But it was only temporary until he found something else. He's now very happy on another job.
The point is, you need to be prepared to do anything on a temporary basis.
Re-applied however was not successful - had interview for a warehouse job however because i suffer from tinnitus in my left ear, i a totally deaf in that ear, i was told that H & S regulations would not allow me to work in a warehouse.
I am prepared to do almost anything to earn some money however there is only so long you can spend on the net looking & applying for a job until you realise it is the same job being advertised over & over again.

There are lots of small businesses out there that could be started with not a lot of cash/a credit card and go about making your own cash?
