Advice on redundancy needed.
Discussion
I've recently been made redundant and need some help with the holiday calculation. I've been there 16 years so get the full 12 weeks notice but they've come up with 4.5 days holiday owed. Our standard holiday entitlement is 20 days but get an extra day every years service after 10 years up to maximum of 20 days which I have, I've taken 15 days so allowing for the 10 months I would have worked this year makes 25 days accrued. Can they count my holiday as 20 days plus the extra 10 as some kind of bonus or are all 30 counted as entitlement and accrued as such? No matter how I look at it I can't come up with 4.5 days owed. Any advice would be most welcome.
You don't say if you have actually challenged your company about this or not though it doesn't read as if you have, in which case I'd say your worrying over nothing.
In situations like this HR will have just calculated your entitlement against their standard current employment contract and won't have reviewed your individual contract. Point out the error to them and providing your employment contract backs it up I'm sure you'll be fine.
You haven't mentioned your redundancy pay, so I just wanted to check that in addition to your notice pay you are also receiving the following -
half a week’s pay for each full year you were under 22
1 week’s pay for each full year you were 22 or older, but under 41
1 and half week’s pay for each full year you were 41 or older

Sorry, should have pointed out I'm not sure how you are achieving your entitlement figures.
20 Days Standard
6 Days Additional for every year over 10 years
26 Days /12 months = 2.16 x 10 months = 21.5 Days holiday entitlement
If you have used 15 Days already then you are owed 6.5 Days holiday pay

That's what I thought, it's been expected for months but we only got the confirmation letters on Friday and to be honest I only scanned it at the time, I was going to check with HR on Monday. Other than that all seems to add up, only the basic redundancy mind but better than some who have been given just 2 weeks notice! I can't imagine how stressful that must be.
16 years service, 43 years old and capped at £450 a week, works out between 7.5 and 8k.

I feel for you, it happened to me during the worst of the recession it was an absolute killer. I ended up going to Ghana for work.
Only advice I can give is to treat job hunting like a full-time job, set up your desk, prepare your CV and Letters of Application. Then its a case of trawling the internet for opportunities, and recruitment agencies. What I would say is that I think over half of all new jobs are found through somebody they already know and its certainly true in my case, so network network network!
Best of luck

Thanks Myc but it's not so bad, we were planning on moving to a cheaper part of the country anyway and this gives us the push we needed. My wife currently works in Slough in a very well paid position but the company are relocating to London which is a crappy journey from maidenhead and the reason she left her old job. We have about 80k as a deposit for a house and are looking at moving to Cambridge where we can get a 4 bedroom detached with a large garden for less than the 2 bedroom terrace we live in now and amazingly the commute will actually be quicker. The plan is for her to commute till we get jobs sorted. As I said, it could be a lot worse.
