I've just been told I failed an interview because I didn't give enough detail in one point. Apparently if I had said I devised a plan to deal with the situation then I would have done enough to get through to the final stage, face to face interviews. The other two criteria were very good I was told. Now the problem is I now cant apply for another six months. I feel I was perfectly suited to the role and would have been able to commit to everything they were wanting and genuinely think I would have been able to progress within the company.

How would it be perceived if I was to email explaining that I thought I was well suited to the role and explain why, is there any chance they would reconsider? It would show that I keen on this role, shows initiative, drive, desire to succeed. Or it shows I'm cocky and far too sure of myself after having a poor interview.

Gutted regardless though.

As above, you don't really have much to lose. I don't think you'd come across as cocky if you word it correctly. Perhaps just put your point across diplomatically and say that you'd appreciate the opportunity to discuss it further?

As an employer who runs his own assessment centre and someone who supports other employers with their assessment processes, I can say that someone contacting me/us after failing the event (any part, including interview) would not cause a review. With so many applicants there has to be a cut off. Plus, I wouldn't be able to cope if all those who were unsuccessful contacted me again asking for a review. But of course that's just me and those organisations I support. Good luck anyway; and as you say, you can try again in 6 months.

I would call or email, have a chat & show you are keen & want to progress.
90% of applicants won't do this, but it can be enough to get you noticed & open communications with someone in a position to call you back in.

I did this many years ago after an interview, expressed some suprise at not being called for a second interview, & just chatted to the chap on the phone.

A few weeks later I got a call asking if I was still interested & then got the job.

I'd say go for it, he who dares Rodney...

Did you go through a recruiter or direct ?

I've had it before when recruiting and agencies just wouldn't accept 'simply not the right fit for the role' and harassed for specifics - the best being one who thought I'd complete a 4 page form. No chance .

That said, it would take guts to go back and fight for it, I think I'd like that if your motivation was spot on ...

Go for it. Having been short listed from 470 applications to 7 via telephone interviews/psychometric testing I was told at the last minute my application wouldn't be taken further.

I sent an email outlining my reasons for reviewing the decision and got down to the last two; I didn't get the role but they were certainly impressed by my reasoning and persistence along with an aptitude for the position.

Wow! I'd consider a change of career with that amount of competition around; plentiful supply drives down remuneration too. ...is what I'd suggest to my clients.
