All surveyors at the company I work for received a memo instructing us not to put large spiders that we find into material sample bags and send them to the lab as it frightens (as in proper scares stless) certain lab staff members (why else would we do it?). Not only is it neither big or clever it may result in disciplinary action.

I love the idea of a job which involves getting to put spiders into bags. Where do I apply?

My dad had a short stint as a behavioural therapist in the NHS. For those scared of spiders he would put one in a jam jar and make them sit at the dining table with it (not actually at dinner obviously!). For those scared of crowded places he would take them with him to do the family weekly shop lol.

So a big fan of the face your fear approach then. I trust it worked? (Certainly works with our puppy)

I notice you said "short stint"! What would he do with a woman who had been raped and was now afraid of men? Your dad sounds like a future court case! hehe

He was on secondment within the NHS but is now retired. What would he do with heights or thunder etc, I've honestly no idea but that Top Gear episode where they electrocuted the car might be an idea idea
