Psychometric Testing And How To Get Smart Quickly!
Discussion
Hi all,
I have just been offered a job with SAP subject to a psychometric/intellect test. It is a dream job for me and I want to make sure I pass with flying colours.
I have taken such tests in the past which have been quite straight forward (the RAF entrance test was more about matching wonky shapes than anything else...). I am sure, for whatever reason, that this is going to be a more rigorous test.
Any hints and tips on how to sharpen the mind and prepare as far as possible? Does anyone work for SAP and sat a similar test?
Any help would be appreciated and virtual beers when (if) I get the final offer.
MODS - I wasnt sure if this was a mostly employment post or a mostly psychometric post. I also realise the potential error of starting a thread in the lounge appealing for help with intelligence

SAP the software giant? There was a bit in I think the Telegraph (but could have been on the BBC news website) within the last couple of weeks saying that they were actively recruiting autistic people because they were better with computers or something similar.
So give all the answers you'd expect someone with autism to give and you should get on fine.

Hi
I've sat some psych tests at assessment centres. They were for management roles so the questions were probably different to yours. IIRC there are some websites where you can try out the types of test your likely to encounter. The website thn gives you feedback on your personality and the Company will use your personality type to gauge how well suited you are to the role.
This is the one I used to familiarise myself.

How I love SHL numerical, cognitive, verbal reasoning and personality profiling tests.
Taking them for the last 15-20 years. Either fly (90%+) or fail (~40) with surprisingly no in between.
The theory is that the results will always be consistent and swings between 40-90% cannot occur with same candidates............bullshiit.
KEY TIP - you do not need to rush to finish, as can score higher with fewer (correctly) answered questions. Many of the so called assessors forget to tell you this.

There are more tests than SHL. Psy corps and myers briggs for eg. Personality tests can be quite tricky to negotiate and the best bet is to just be honest. You will see a pattern though particularly with the 16pf. Aptitude tests such as critical reasoning or numeric ability tests are simply measuring brain processing power. The above poster is correct that not to rush is the key. You would be surprised how few correct answers you need to get an average score. The other trick of course is to make sure you leave a little time at the end to randomly fill in all the answers even if you could not read the questions. Even simply answering all the questions "B" will give you 20% score on the remaining questions you could not get to. When training people to do these tests Saville and others specifically point out that this knowledge artificially skews the results. Be careful though a perfect score up to question 47 then all "C"s might lead them to discount your answers. HTH

Wonder if they'll have you role-playing being held hostage by an angry customer who's threating to beat you to death with your own tongue for selling them SAP
Ive had that with the forces. That's why I have the job!
They have started me early and want me to go through the tests at a later date. Phew!
