Hey all,
I'm in my 2nd year of BEng Automotive Engineering and I'm in the process of applying to lots of different companies in the search of an industrial placement next year.

PH worked very well for me when I looked for volunteering experience.. So albeit unlikely, I thought I may as well have a punt again this time round!
Ideally looking for R&D-esque areas, maybe power/drive train development as it interests me greatly - But tbh I'm not entirely sure, I don't even really know whats out there!
I'm competent with a lot of automotive principles, AutoCAD & Solidworks & consider myself very committed and drive.

So does anyone know of any companies hiring undergraduates, or will a PHer give me a job? paperbag

Ford are looking for industrial experience students. Check out the usual graduate job sites for details.

Triumph is always a good bet for industrial placements.

Thanks for your replies!
I'm in the process of applying to quite a few companies but I'd completely forgotten about Gradcracker, cheers!

Tickford Powertrains looks very interesting and exactly what I'm after, huge thanks for that - Have sent a copy of my CV over to them beer It's the less mainstream companies like this that I'm struggling to find anywhere!

Check out Nissan's website. I did a placement at their technical centre in Bedfordshire. They do full vehicle development there and used to have placements in most areas of the business including power train.

Bump!
I know it's a long shot, but I still haven't found a placement for next year and thought I may as well give PH another go!

If anyone knows of any companies hiring undergraduates in the automotive industry, please let me know!

Can you put a list of where you've tried? That way we might be able to come up with places you haven't looked at yet.

I really enjoyed it, was in Marketaility so had access to the toy box. OP if you have applied to Nissan yet do it. Not meany companies will let you take pre-production prototypes to Le Mans smile

O/T: Are you involved in test and measurement at all? I now work for a MK based sensor supplier (R&D pressure, force, vibration etc not OEM) and we would love an in to NTCE. biggrin

So far I've applied to: Nissan, Toyota, Tickford Power Specialists, Ricardo, Caterham Tech and Williams F1.
I've applied to several more, but never heard anything back from them.
Nissan looked ideal, but since I applied before Christmas I'm obviously not even interview worthy. Ho hum.

I'm predicted 2:1 and (according to the uni placement office) have a pretty good CV - Just no luck so far.

Thanks for the Aston link, have a couple uni deadlines looming atm but given the application deadline of late April I'll apply as soon as I can smile

Hum... by 'pretty good CV' do you mean content or lay out? If both are sorted you should at least be getting interviews.

Perhaps consider uploading a copy for PH to critique, I've seen it done before to great success.

I'd rather not upload it, but if anyone reading this would be happy to offer critique; I'd be more than happy to PM it?

Thanks.

I'd be trying:
Cosworth
Jag Land Rover
Ford
RLE (do a lot of outsourced work for OEM's)
Marussia F1
Lotus F1
Lotus cars
Force India F1
Red Bull F1
Prodrive
M-Sport
Mercedes AMG high performance engines (or whatever they're called)
Merc F1
Mclaren road cars/F1

I'm sure there are loads more I've forgotten, not to mention all the tier 1 and 2 suppliers to OEM's who are based in the UK.

Do it,

i has a placement at Bentley, best thing i ever did re experience, and getting a grad job.
(then sold my soul to work in Banking and now consulting)

the car company placements are usually more glam, eg. i ended up managing suppliers and testing in Czech republic and Germany

its also worth trying component companies as well.
Bentley
Jag LandRover
Holset
Perkins
Cummins
Ricardo
MIRA

I'm looking at the moment too, although I'm studying Mechanical BEng. I've applied for 20 or so formal internships and have sent out countless emails to companies more local to me (Surrey, Sussex and Berkshire) using the UK Motorsport Index to find companies. I've heard nothing apart from a couple of rejections and one email telling me no positions were available. I've not even been picky with what I am applying for.
I would happily upload my CV, but it's not just plain text so I'm not sure how I would go about it. If anyone could have a look for me, I would certainly be in their favour.
In fact, perhaps someone works for a company that takes Engineering Interns?
