Over the top security at work

In the warehouse I work at, we have a security check every night.
We are required to roll our trousers up to our knees, turn our pockets inside out, show under the collar of our t shirts, and show the waistband of our underwear.
We finish work at 0000 but there are 800 people to be checked, and only 3 people doing the checks, if you are at the back of the queue you will not get out until after 0100, anything after midnight is not paid.
Is this even legal?

Bloody hell, where do you work?
Do you have a union? This is something they'd be useful for.
This sounds like really bad management - most likely an idea dreamt up by someone who has never actually seen the reality of what their policy means late at night when people just want to go home.
I'd personally go for an informal letter to HR letting them know of the problem, followed up by raising a formal grievance if not solved. It'd be an idea to get a few other people putting in the same.
Have a read through your Employees handbook too - it might have something of use too.

I am an agency worker, the agency say there is nothing they can do.
Incidentally, if anyone is recruiting people with supervisory experience within 20 miles of Worksop, or in Retford drop me a line and I will send you my C.V.
Suggest they move the security check to the staff entrance to the warehouse.
Then you can arrive at work, strip to your undies and put your gear in a locker, and go into the warehouse where you will be given some overalls for your shift.
At the end of the shift, throw the overalls in the bin or wash-basket (depending if they are disposables or proper overalls) go through security in your undies, and then go get dressed and head for home.
The process will be much quicker with nowhere to hide anything - just don't get in the line behind the pretty girls or it could take even longer than it does now!

He was asking whether they could do this before he accepted the job last time. Now he has the job and it is turning out to be not random, quick checks as everyone supposed it might be, but up to an hour waiting, unpaid, he is asking again for more feedback as he is understandable a bit fed up with it.

You could insist on payment, as this is working time. It also counts towards you working time totals. If payment is not made, you could make a claim for an unlawful deduction from wages.
This is exactly the sort of reason why you should join a union. This sounds like a rotten place to work.

Bad situation to be in and I feel sorry for you,and dont take this personally,but you are an agency worker.There is nothing you can do.
The agency dont give a toss about you all their worried about is getting paid.If you leave all they will do is replace you with someone else.They still get paid.
Do the full time staff put up with this or is it all agency?
Best thing you can do is get another job.

Only supervisors and above work for the company, everyone on the warehouse floor is agency.
I am looking for a new job, as this is nothing like it was advertised, at least it got me off the dole.
