Any PHers work for drilling companies in the North Sea?

I'm just after any possible pointers as for the best way to get myself a start as a roustabout, as I understand vacancies are few and far between at present.

About me:
-2.1 in Economics (MA) from a decent university
-Varied work experience from manual labouring to bar work and telephone campaigning
-Universal BOSIET/MIST as well as Banksman/Slinger training
-Physically fit/capable and quick learner, motivated, safety aware etc etc

Up till now I've just been applying to companies online, as well as taking my CVs/covering letters/copies of certificates round various offices in Aberdeen. Still have a few to visit, just wondering if I am on the right track? I have an inside contact at one company, and they have my details on file, but aren't recruiting new starts at present (but may later this year).

Any thoughts/ideas at all would be hugely appreciated!
