Enterprising, pushy, or just odd?

I've advertised a role recently, internally to the company. We're a large global organisation.

One potential candidate, who, despite this being an internal advert, I've never heard of or met (we are c. 500,000 employees globally, so not surprising) sent me a brief summary of his career and included detail of his LInkedIn profile. So far, so good.

A few hours later I get a request to connect with him on LI. Immediate reaction was that this was a little odd; pushy, even. The vacancy is for a professional role at a reasonable level, for which he appears to have the right background, i.e. he's not a junior/young member of staff who doesn't know any better.

As the title says, what do you think: enterprising, pushy, or odd?

But then I spend large parts of my working day on LinkedIN - so I kind of expect it.

Well, does it not tell you that he wants the job? Also, he's highlighted himself in your mind. Do you need someone who gets st done and won't take no for an answer or would you prefer a "yes" man?

I've got a Linkedin account, but I don't really get the point of it if i'm honest. It does seem fairly normal though to get requests from people that you've only met briefly through business. The fact that you have had some communications and that you both work for the same company would say to me that this is pretty normal behaviour, he's probably just trying to create a relationship with you.

So he's actively giving you the opportunity to find out who your common contacts are so you can find out a bit more about him, and that's 'odd'? Fair enough.

Cappo - I have thought this a few times and would only use Linked In if I had opened a dialogue with you, which he has. Therefore he is giving you the chance to find out even more about him if you so wish.

Nothing strange in my opinion. Linked In is doing its job

Coincidentally, I've had a few requests to hook up recently that made me think twice like you. Upon reflection however, my reaction is probably telling me more about myself than the person doing the requesting.
