A neighbour of mine has had her CV submitted, by an agency and with her specific approval, to a large company.

Her worry is that she worked for this company once before and they suggested she seek alternative career opportunities at the end of her probationary period.

But, this was working in a different field (IT as opposed to finance), at different site to the one she's applied to, and in 1981!

Her CV only details what she's done in the 10 years or so she's been an accountant with a brief summary of what she did before that, so this company isn't mentioned.

She isn't sure whether this company will pick up on it from their records, (she's now back to the same surname), and whether it will rule her out.

My suggestion is to mention it at the interview, it might actually help a bit in showing she knows the firm, and even if it's a negative it will be a lot more negative if they feel she's deliberately kept it quiet. Or possibly mention she has worked for them before but not detail the leaving circumstances unless they ask.

What's the best option?

I wouldn't mention it, it was ages ago and they won't have kept record that far back. It's unlikely that they'll be interested in work history beyond 10 years ago

30 years! yikes people & places change an awful lot in that time. I doubt prospective employer will bother looking back that far.

I would mention it at an appropriate moment; honesty is the best policy. And as has been said, it was so long ago as to be irrelevant unless discipline or restoring efficiency was involved. Good luck!
