Working offshore

Hi everyone, I was wondering what it is really like working off shore ? I have heard its 2 weeks on 2 weeks off ?

Good pay?

Do you miss you family ?

How easy is it to get into that Role?

Just general information would be good aswell

Good pay?For doing what? A sat diver could make £250k in a year, senior DDs and Company Men will be north of 6 figures - generally people will get paid a lot more than an equivalent onshore job. I'm now predominantly onshore and my salary has dropped by about 1/3

Do you miss you family ? Yes. Last two Christmasses have been in Norway drilling holes in the ground. Not just your family either. Fancy a pint in the pub? How about seeing your mates? Going out for a meal?

How easy is it to get into that Role? What role? You have Geologists, engineers, logistics guys, roughnecks, medics (and the list goes on) on a rig all probably getting there through very different routes. I did 5 years at uni, some guys will have a PHd, others will have loads of expereience...

I don't mean to come across as rude or negative, but there are loads of guys who want to "work offshore" without actually considering it properly - what are your skills? If you don't bring anything to the rig and you just like the sound of 2/2 and a big salary, then you will be waiting a while. If you have a banksman/welder/rope access etc. ticket, then that is a different matter.

It is impossible to offer you any real advice without knowing what your situation is - if you are in your final year of a degree, then the answer is a bit different than if you have just left school for example.
