I am a bit of a man of leisure at the moment, I come from a clerical/office background and currently run a small business from home which uses my current office/sales skills and I earn enough to get by. I am really keen to add to my skills and I am looking at some training for a trade such as electrician or plumber so that I could also look to earn some extra income from this and enjoy a total change from my day to day. My DIY skills are good and I know that I should really go to the trade I enjoy the most but I would want the training costs to pay off.

Anyone got any suggestions

You could consider starting off as an odd job man, gaining experience as you go. Once you're feeling more competent, you could look for plumber's mate opportunities and take some form of apprenticeship route to qualification at the same time (your boss would also get a government grant too). Good luck!
