Honda Technician Apprenticeship; tips and advice.

Hi all

Since leaving college in June last year, i have been slogging it out trying to find an apprenticeship. I originally applied for Ferrari and Porsche and made it to the final 4 for each one, however, they were only willing to pay £100 a week and as i live 40 mins away from both dealers, by the time i had taken out my travel expenses i would not have earned anything.

I then applied for an I.T job at Siemens, again, made it to the final stage but as i was 18, the said they would have had to have increased my wage when i was 19 so they gave the job to a 16 year old.

Fast forward to November and i managed to get a job at Asda as a christmas temporary worker, i did very well and impressed the members of staff however as Tesco had opened a massive store next to Asda, the layed off all their temp workers as they could not afford to keep them on with Tesco attracting existing Asda customers.

Anyhow, i am still looking for a job in the motor induatry and noticed on the apprenticeship website Honda are looking for an apprentice at a dealership around 30 mins from me, they look to offer a good programme and are paying £154 a week which is very appealing. Has anyone ever done the Honda apprenticeship or know of anyone who has?? I am quite enthusiastic about the brand, after all i am NSX mentalist and have work experience in this sector with a Ferrari and Porsche specialist, JMH Automotive, i would have worked for them but they dont offer an apprenticeship programme. I am tempted to go and visit the service manager of the dealership to make a good impression.


I would appreciate any tips and advice you have.

A team phoned my college asking for a student to help them run Radicals at Brands hatch for the weekend. I said yes and off I went.

The team was based in Banbury nearly an hour from my house. But I still helped out. This became a full time job and we moved to Tewkesbury. Still 40 minutes from home and I only made enough to cover travel plus a little.

Fast forward to today. The team is based in my home town, I'm paid ok and I travel the world doing a job I absolutely love.
Now I'm off off to the far east for 5 weeks running cars.

Just goes to show sacrifice sometimes has to be made. Im could be paid a lot more and do a lot less hours.
Basically keep trying, through the st (I used to get a lot of st) and don't turn down an opportunity so easily.

Hi

Two weeks after finishing school I started my apprenticeship with Mercedes-Benz at 17. It helped that I was there for a month or so before hand on work experience.

I got friendly with them by just picking up the phone and calling the service manager, who turned out to be a lovely bloke and explaining my passion for Mercedes-Benz and that I have experience working on cars etc finished up by saying that I would appreciate it if he would meet with me for a chat as I would like a Apprenticeship.

If he agrees, go down there nice and smart, clean shaven with no Mickey Pearce.

I find they quite liked my confidence and clear desire to work on/with cars.
