Allocated disabled parking - do you have to provide?

Hi
We're about to move offices and will have 11 allocated parking spaces at the new site. We take up half of the total spaces available on the complex as there is another office downstairs which is empty which has the other 11 spaces.

Currently there is no designated disabled bay on the premises. Does anyone know what the law is around us having to use one of our parking spots as a disabled bay? Is this something we as a tennant need to do, or would it be the landlords responsibility?

NOt 100% sure on the answer to if it is a legal requirment but the answer as to who has to put this in place will depend on that exact nature of your lease in relation to the car park.

I can tell you that you will be paying the final bill for it one way or another if that helps, but you knew that already if you've seen the lease

Unless stipulated in any lease/contract/covenant/local planning guidelines or LA directive, I'm sure it's not a standing legal requirement; but I'd check with your LA. Assuming it's not, it may be good practice and an outward signal of your support for those less able.

While I completely agree with you here, the staff would make my life hell as there are not enough spaces to go round as it is and having an allocated disabled space sitting empty for 99% of the time would not be well received.

As it happens I have just found out that the 2hr parking zone on the road outside does not apply for disabled pass holders, so it would actually be more convenient for them to park there.
