I'm recruiting at present but I've never been trying to hire at this time of year before.

Applications are either from the usual crazy people or very poor.

Is it just that Christmas isn't the most popular time of year to change jobs?

What role are you recruiting for and where is it based?

A lot of people are sitting tight if their employer is in a sound position financially.

Is it helpdesk or Infrastructure support or a TA?
I know a helpdesk guy that is looking and a TA, Bristol would be ok for them both. I also know of a network engineer that is looking to get out of his current position.

It's a technical support role, so looking for support experience with Java, some web technologies and SQL (either MS or Oracle is fine). Which isn't the biggest technical wish list... It's not like I'm looking for a cobalt programmer!

Smart people know (or think) that December is dead, so either move early, or sit tight until January.

Not sure about IT, but in my sector (banking) people tend to hold on for their bonus first, this is paid in Feb at my bank. If you have handed in your notice prior to bonus day you get nothing. So most people will keep out of the jobs market towards the end of the year, as they have put the work in for the bonus, but are yet to get it.
