Based in S Cambs our Company is a world leader in the design, development and implementation of advanced automation systems for the life science research industry. We specialise in automation for cell culture (across research, bio processing and regenerative medicine) and advanced screening applications.
The current customer offerings include a world leading range of cell culture systems, an innovative set of benchtop cell handling systems and a consumables business, as well as an advanced projects group supplying custom integrated solutions and partnership services supplying service and support to an extensive installed base.
We also engage in a significant number of collaborative projects with major organisations within the life sciences sector.

The Company’s Board see it as crucial to future success that the organisation is transformed to become more strongly product rather than project focussed. The Manufacturing Manager will have a key impact, working with the Chief Operating Officer and the Head of Procurement to achieve this.
This role will be accountable for all aspects of day to day production for our product portfolio as well as the responsibility for formulating and delivering the long term production strategy.
Other main responsibilities include:
• Effective leadership of the product team
• Delivery, cost and quality of products
• Supply chain for products
• Production engineering
• A product portfolio consisting of complex electro mechanical systems and moulded plastic consumables
The jobholder will also oversee the continuous improvement of existing production processes and the design of manufacturing processes for new products moving into production as well as acting as the gatekeeper for acceptance of new products from the development team into production
Organisation Structure
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Manufacturing Manager will be part of the Operations Management team.
Direct reports will include:
• Cell team leaders for product lines
• Product procurement specialist
• Senior production engineer
Candidate Specification
• The successful candidate will have extensive, proven manufacturing experience in a high technology engineering environment.
• The appointee will possess strong, effective leadership skills and particularly have experience of building successful teams and leading change.
• Lean manufacturing and/or a continuous improvement background with a working knowledge of design for manufacture techniques is essential, as is a good understanding of basic financial analysis.
Some useful dimensions include the following:
• Bench top price range: £25K to £150K.
• Current typical product assembly and packing time: 1 to 2 weeks assembly, 1 to 2 weeks test and packing.
