Hi all

Got my redundancy notice last week (90 days), and not wanting to leave my employer in the crap, we talked round a few options of them being flexible with time off for interviews/consultant meetings etc.

The more I think about it, I'm a dead man walking , so am I best out now, with a lump sum now and concentrate my efforts on finding a new job full time? I would of course be at the end of a phone if they needed me for anything. All part of the headcount reduction...

Haven't taken any legal advice as yet, not too sure I need to

Cheers
Nick

It's certainly worth asking, it's not like it can do any harm.

The way it worked at my place was that if you signed a contract with a new employer before the 90 day period there was a danger you would lose your redundancy, you could defer signing until the 90th day.

Also, as you are being made redundant, you should be allowed reasonable time off to attend interviews.

fk 'em! All very noble wanting to stay but you really need to look after number 1.

Strictly speaking you may forfeit any payment if you leave unilaterally before your prescribed redundancy dismissal date. Use your consultation period to ask the question and agree an early leaving date if you so wish.

Looking after number 1 is all very well except that if you don't keep your end of the bargain don't expect others to keep their's. In other words if your agreement is to stay for 90 days and receive a redundancy payment don't be surprised if you don't get a payment if you don't stay for 90 days.
