Hi All, looking for some advice. I have recently sold my business and have a bit of money to keep me going for a while but not enough to never work again. I am 40yrs of age and do not want to get back into my previous field as I feel this is a great opportunity for a change in direction. What would you do (workwise) if you had this chance?

I know that the usual questions are, what are your hobbies? what do you enjoy doing? but to be honest for the last 15yrs my life has been my job and so no real interests elsewhere. Hence the reason for the change with the idea of getting a better life/work balance.

I do feel that I would like to continue to work for myself but keep it as a "one man band" and I am fortunate that the mortgage has gone and so I do not need to earn a fortune to keep me and the family going. Basically, I need some direction and would love some suggestions. My initial thoughts are to retrain as:

Plumber, Plasterer, Tiler or even volunteer to work for free for various busineses, trades, companies to get some idea of what to do.

My apologies for the vagueness of this post (and any spelling/grammer errors) but when I sit here and type this it is hard to put into words what I mean.

Steve

I think the question is still pertinent. You're going to have to get some sort of hobby at some point or else half of your work/life balance will be very boring.

However, some suggestions:

Outdoor Activity Instructor

Seasonal Work (chalet host, etc.)

Property Development

Charity Volunteer Work (at a charity which interests you, with a view to keeping an eye on a paid position)

The next big thing is private healthcare organisations providing personalised care in the home. Good luck!
