We have another opportunity within the Hardware Group for a UK-based Mechanical Engineer in the S Cambs area. If anyone knows of anyone who might be interested in this role, drop me a line, applications by Tuesday, 5th July 2011.

Role

To lead the hardware development of complex automated systems containing hardware, electronics and software for pharmaceutical and biotechnology applications world-wide.
To lead a small team of mechanical and electrical designers to ensure that the hardware design’s quality, time and cost targets are met.
To work closely with key stakeholders including, software, business development and technology to ensure that the system design meets the essential requirements for commercial success.
To contribute towards the production engineering and cost reduction of existing and emerging products and ensure the designs meet the requirements for a successful product release.

Experience

Candidates are likely to have a good degree in mechanical engineering coupled with demonstrable experience of successfully developing and commercialising complex systems / scientific instruments for low to medium volume manufacture (from one offs to up to 100 units a year)
Core competencies should be:
• systems engineering (experience of developing complex systems containing hardware, electronics, software and ideally for lifescience / biological / laboratory based applications).
• emphasis on robotics and materials handling and mechanisms,
• taking designs from prototype through to established manufactured products
• managing small teams of technical personnel
They will also have experience of being project members on integrated engineering teams, whose remit is likely to have included the specification, procurement, installation and commissioning of automated special purpose machines.
