Having recently visited Dubai for a Holiday I would say that it's an ok place to visit for a holiday / shopping experience, it's a bit bling and designed to pull tourists in to spend money. I think I could manage many a month there in winter to escape the winter in Europe.

People I know have moved their for a job opportunity, none have just wandered over and found a job, I am sure that life is amazing if you are an Emirati as the government throws money at you, the rest are there purely for economic reasons (make as much money as possible and have an exit plan). If I had a choice of countries that I would want to live in, first I would need to speak the local language (I assume you would look to speak / write in Arabic if you wanted to move permanently) and secondly I would need some purpose to stop myself being bored out of my mind.

I work with people from UAE and the ones that were not born there all seem to have a plan to leave at some point.

So if your primary motivation is money then I would say do it, but I also expect that people often lose sight of the exit plan and then start to spend money because they are bored of the reality of living in Dubai.
There’s zero integration from what I saw. No need at all to speak any local tongue.

Mates that live there and work there all only speak English.
There's a million Emiratis and 8.5 million immigrants in the UAE. I don't think learning Arabic helps much in day-to-day life given the number of different languages spoken.

Indeed, someone out there was telling me they are looking at bringing in legislation to ensure a percentage of staff are UAE born in certain organisations/companies.

Friend of mine is a teacher out there.
She has been there 2 years and cannot wait to come back to the UK.

Already in place. And what a joy it is. As explained to me by an Emirati, it’s only the dumb ones who require such legislation.

Also speaking Arabic IS required if you want to go for the really serious jobs. But otherwise, you’d be making money hand over fist if you’re Brit born/educated and a Hindi speaker.

Q: what’s the nicest city in india?
A: Dubai

Urdu would be useful too - this guy turned up to my house and started washing my car 5x a week. He wants 100 AED a month and I can't get him to stop.

We had the same with some gardeners too. The previous occupiers gardener turned up and let himself into the garden to start watering the plants. That one was easier, we found where the key was hid and put it somewhere else.

Dubai problems biggrin

She's back this year, going to work in a private school.
