Well, I assume I wasn't successful in getting any further applying for the freight liner job, but do they let you know either way?

Good news is that I have got a really good job related to my current job in IT. I'll save train driving for another time! smile

Just had the paperwork through for the freightliner shortlist, the tests are on the 28th of august!
Did anyone else get through?

Oh, and does anyone have any tips with how to approach it?!
I've just had my envelope through. Have you had any information regarding test.

TOCs are worried about long term side effects from it being unknown as far as I'm aware

Damn, these positions are coming earlier than I had hoped. If my own situation changes by the turn of the year, then I'll definitely be keeping my eye on future positions.

Whats the difference between Train Driver Operator and Train Driver? Is one in charge and other a deputy?

The operator is what we call a 2nd man, he shunts the trains / pulls points / assisting the driver etc people always go for the drivers jobs, but this role is a great stepping stone career wise .

Are the tests for the driver operator the same as the driver position.
Looking at a change of career but if I were successful I'd take a £10k loss until I were trained from the wage I'm on now.

The driver operator is what used to be called the second man, they shunts locos & couple freight wagons, also pull points & set roads etc its one wary to get a foot into the industry & your half way there to being a driver !

Working on the freight you get to do some travelling & usually have a varied job compared to passenger TOCS, plus you don't get the pleasure of working with the British travelling public !!!!!!
