I think is a real shame. I've been to Bentwaters a few times and its an excellent track for beginners, and also cheap.
This problem is going to spread to other airfields and at the end of the day you can understand the people who live near. Would you want to hear screaming engines all day long , ever day when you want ot be having a mellow day a home? ( don't answer as I'm sure most you lot here would!) - but most non-petrol head people won't.

So whats the solution? I dunno, but perhaps airfields are going to have to invest in making earth banks around the tracks - this wuoudl significantly reduce the noise be generated..

I would rather have cars than jumbo jets anyday, even small light aircraft make a lot of noise and just circle round and round all day long and then of course there are the stunt planes dive bombing your house...

Honestly, what did these people expect when bought a house next door to an AIRFIELD.

They should think themselves lucky, I mean it's not every day you see exotic cars over your back fence is it. Or maybe they are just jealous of people having fun.

Live and let live!

Why not impose noise limits and restrict usage at weekends?

Why not lop off all the ears of the objectors. Harsh, but effective.

Fng killjoy fool pricks.. I don't know who's worse.. the people complaining or the council for bending over backwards for these buffoons..

We should locate the offending councillors and petition them.. or we could all put a turd in an envelope and post it to them.

I hate these people and they should all be bludgeoned to within an inch of their lives.. and then put in stocks to starve and bleed to death in a puddle of piss.

Perhaps the next time the bolt-on-boys are playing on our local Saisbury's car park I should petition the council to close the damned supermarket down..

I think some degree of understanding is called for. If it happened in my backyard in an airfield that had been silent for years, I'd probably get a bit hacked off. Shame there's no room for compromise though.

Who's complained about Colerne airfield? Mine is the only house close to the circuit and I enjoy a good track day. Don't see how anyone else could be disturbed by the noise. I will try to discover who the numpties are and beat them to a pulp.

I think no degree of understanding is required for these arses unless reciprocal understanding can be demonstrated and there has been none.

Also Ted, I think you're becoming far too reasonable in your old age.. Go outside and gimme 10 donuts then come back and sit in the corner.

I've just been looking at a company that supplies portable sound screen in the USA, depending on how expensive - weather proof - ease of assembly etc, this could be a viable option, i've sent a queery, i'll keep all posted, we'll fight them on the shores.....

ps

I'l have port and lemonade thanks carzee!

Someone pulling your plonker
Kemble has not been closed down in fact there will be a number of events there this year, it seems that the only problem was with organisers operating there.

Colerne when run by Bookatrack did not have to close down due to noise they ran till about 5pm

If you got those two pieces of information wrong how good is your info about Bentwaters

Jolly good.. it had occured to me that perhaps some of the companies had decided that conformance and politics weren't worth the bother. OTOH, blowing off steam and calling people names on the internet served as a good substitute to pure reason on this occasion

Do you have an authoritative source?

Get back in your pram. I was down at Goodwood yesterday speaking with Jonny from Bookatrack They received the letter about Colerne the day after the track day. Bentwaters is definitely binned.

Perhaps someone should give Dunsfold a call. They used to run the Harrier program from there and it is now closed. Bet the locals wouldnt mind the noise, as it has got to be quieter than a harrier jump jet.

As I remember it is a huge area and a massive runway with enough side roads etc to get some really good layouts.

Petrol Ted, perhaps you could push this mention towards bookatrack and easytrack?

The "noise" issue is, I fear, a red herring. It's not noise but people complaining simply because it's on their door step.

Take, for example, a classic case at Brands Hatch. An event was advertised for a weekday event, including in the local papers, which was subsequently cancelled. But the local council *still* got letters complaining about the noise from this event !!!

There also seems to be little grounds for compromise, not least because of the laughable attitude presented by some of the protestors. For example, someone at Bentwaters claimed to have to leave their house because of the noise, which is utter bollocks because you can't hear the cars from the entrance to the air base, let alone where she claimed to be hearing them from !!

As usual it only take a few complaints to get things binned. I bet if the whole of the local population were questioned many would just shrug and say let them get on with it, a few would probably welcome them (the local petrol station owner for one !!) and there would probably only be a few people who actually were against the idea of track days being run near their home.

What concerns me is that nobody considers the alternative, i.e. loads of performance cars tear-arsing around country lanes *right* on these peoples' doorsteps !!!

Sounds like someone is rabble (nimby) rousing, and that the airfield day organisers will have to get a bit smarter on the PR front - go & talk to the local bigwigs and noisemakers, find out what's really troubling them and see if their concerns can be accomodated with a great British compromise.

Most people just want to know what's going on, who's organising it, how often it happens and for how long so they can get on with their lives w/o worrying about "hooligans lowering the tone of the neighbourhood" etc.

No point in getting all "us & them" about it.

Exactly, but it's still pisses me off when people just complain, apparently just for the sake of it, and their position is the one which gets taken on board by the council to the exclusion of all else.

I really wish you'd get the odd council who would turn round to people like this and just say something like "piss off you moaning old windbag and get back to your knitting", or something equally constructive...
