Buying Tyres Online

We try out the new service from Buyatyre.com. Intelligent use of the web or just a gimmick?

Don't know about the buyatyre.com service, but the online pie ordering site looks fantastic!

Ted, those pies all look the same to me; we need an experts opinion please.

Good, what about the balancing quality on a portable, ie not bolted down, machine. Have you had a chance to try them at XXXmph yet??
Like you, the thought of someone coming to me to do this at a very reasonable price, all at a couple of clicks away, is very attractive.
When you said you 'then went online to pay' do you mean the guy waited for you to do this after fitting or did you have to do it when ordering up front?

PS sorry for so many questions Ted but my mouse finger is itching

The machine was bolted to the van which was of sufficient size that instability didn't seem to be a problem.

Yep, I've tested them at up to 100mph (been out on a track today briefly) and didn't have any perceptable wobbles.

As for payment, check with the Buyatyre guys. They were happy for me to pay afterwards but I don't know if that is standard practice.

The site is easy to use and when I did not compleat I was sent a nice e-mail offering help!
Prices look good two.
It is ofen a good thing to have new tyres at a high psi to start with then get them right after about 150 miles.....or so I have been told!

Hmmm, they quote Dunlop SP SPORT 255 x 35 R18 Z for £198.00, but I just a had a pair fitted by my BMW main dealer for £170.

I'll give them a try when my Tiv needs some new rubber though..

Well the prices are great..then the human beings get involved.

Ordered 2 tyres a week in advance of the desired fitting time. On the day of fitting received a phone call from the Kwik Fit mobile fitter to say he'd been to collect my tyres from the depot only to find they'd been used for another customer.
Re-arranged fitting time for this morning at work. Different fitter arrived but did not have the tyres with him as he had not been told what job he was being sent to do! He contacted the depot, left to collect my tyres and said he'd be back in half an hour (a bit ambitious for a 40 mile round trip). 3 hours later still waiting! Keep you posted!!

Used them twice now (Saab and TVR), cheap and good service. Would (and have) recommend them.

Also, I'd agree with Ted on the over inflation, was a bit hairy until let some air out!!

I'm going to mention it to Paul (from Guglielmi's) since it would be great to have them on hand at the end of a trackday as I found out this weekend at Brunters (cooked my tyres by midday)

Ralphy,

I can't find an order that would relate to the info you've mentioned. Drop me a mail with your real name & car details and make enquiries from our end to make sure this doesn't happen again.

The website doesn't seem to work for me. I click on "retail" and it takes me to the same page.

Jon,

Just click "Tyres" from the grey menu bar across the top. Not sure what the problem is - are you running a personal firewall or zonealarm or something?

Yes, looks like it's ZoneAlarm Pro on my home machine and the corporate firewall at work.

EDIT: Ooyah! Just got a quote. £156 / tyre compared with the £115 / tyre I've just paid at Bracknell Tyres.

(This is for 245/45/R16 Bridgestone S03)

Futher to my earlier comments. After 4 hours waiting I decided to walk down to the car park. Discovered Mr Kwik Fit had been back & done my tyres. Turns out the he had left my car keys at my office security desk without notifying me or explaining to the security staff whose keys they were & why he was leaving them!

Jonny, I'll e-mail you with my order details & a full version of this comedy of errors. I'd hate anyone else to suffer in the same way.

Well Johnny, 4 months have passed & you still have not responded to my 2 communications detailing the shoddy service provided on your behalf by Kwik Fit Mobile.
