I am awaiting delivery of my 111R so I thought I had better learn to drive the thing before it arrives. So I signed up with a couple of friends for the Lotus driver training experience, which I did just yesterday.

It was absolutely bloody fantastic. The day started early at 8am with a bit of grub and a coffee. We met the organisers and instructors and had some intro stuff, a bit of talkie and video. This set out what we were going to do for the day, I was buzzing with anticipation and a touch of 'ohh my god how am I going to do these things' feelings by the time we left the briefing.

We were split into groups of 4 and sent of our separate ways. First of for our group was the circle, how much fun can you have going around and around! We learnt about under steer, over steer and power sliding. I could have spent a day doing that alone. Then it was of to the slalom course, man that was fun, the Elise is built for that stuff, before the emergency breaking session which goes against every instinct! Each activity we got a couple of goes at and whilst we waited our turn they even drove over provided soft drinks and nibbles (how civilised can you get).

Then it was back to the center for a spot of lunch before that track sessions. Here we got to put into practice some of the skills we learnt in the morning and the speed at which you improved with the instructors was amazing.

(got a bit carried away...)

We finished of the day with an unbelievable couple of laps with an instructor. You so understand what they have been teaching you and pushing you to learn when they show how well it can be done.

All in all it was just an amazing day. I have done a couple of track days before and they were good, but this was just leagues ahead. I walked away having learnt so much stuff which not only can I use on the track but stuff also applicable to every day driving. The organisation was fantastic and it ended up being one of the best days ever.

You want to learn, got an Elise, then try and get yourself on it. As for me I am putting the misses on it and am planning to tag along with her for another go at it all, it is quite pricey but it is just the best ever.
