goodwood february 7th
Discussion
anyone going to this bookatrack event?
I've never driven or even spectated at Goodwood but wondered if it was worth the trek all that way darn sarf?
I'm guessing it's a bit of a power circuit and won't suit the S very well ( nimble handler though it is, it's flat out at 130mph and takes a couple of miles to get there!!)

Goodwood is a great circuit, apart from a couple of things:
The marshals are useless! They employ people who sit in their cars, on a bank reading the paper that radio back to the pit lane, if there is an incident, then a flag goes up at pit lane.
The noise is a big issue, so be very nice to the guy who is doing the test else you will fail regardless! If you’re borderline, there are 3 real time....patched direct to the council....noise meters around the circuit:
1. Just after Madgewick
2. Just after St Marys
3. Just after the chicane
If people abuse these then the council can come and shut the day down.
So because of this only a few cars are allowed out on circuit at any one time. This seriously dents your play time :-(
The tyre walls are IMHO dangerous.
So those are the downsides
The good sides are:
You step back in time, and almost feel rude bringing a modern day car to an old circuit oozing in heritage
The circuit is very fast, I have seen 160mph on Lavant straight.
Woodcote is amazing!!!! And the possible power slides are numerous.
It becomes very technical due its speed.
The balance of odds I think are in favour of going, I love the circuit. Once you are aware of the issues, you can relax and have a good time so go.
PS if you are driving a Scooby be-aware of your brakes, they will not last 5 laps!!!!! Unless changed, carry a fire extinguisher you may need it LOL

Joolz you are right about it being a power circuit.
Goodwood is one of my favourite circuits for the Cerbera. An indicated 130 through Fordwater and then further acceleration on the way to the right hander No Name before St Mary's. Also an indicated 150+ at the end of the Lavant straight.
Have fun.

You better pray it stays dry! Goodwood can be pretty intimidating in the dry because you need a lot of commitment to get anywhere near the limit. In the wet it is downright terrifying because if you put a wheel off the track you're not going to lose much speed before you hit the scenery. Watch out especially for the bump on the exit from Madgewick, and the crest at the turn-in for Fordwater. In the wet these can be lethal.
Joolz, Goodwood is my local and fave circuit. Yep its fast and scary (tho not in a 'ring sense) but isn't that the whole point? I can verify the comments about the cerbera at that circuit but the caterham is significantly faster. With all the help you have given me I would be delighted to meet you down there and point out some "tricks" for getting more out of the circuit. Not sure if I can get a place (haven't checked)and/or get through the noise levels but I'm pretty sure I could meet you there if you like.
Cheers
Mark

hm .. thanks for all the replies but i think i'd be out of my depth there .. it sounds too much a flat out circuit, and the S really is in it's element in slower twisty stuff where it can embarrass the tuscans and cerberas (plus the whole point of track dasy for me is to go sideways rather than fast ..) so i guess i'll be giving it a miss in favour of another bedford, elvington or bruntingthorpe thrash
cheers though gyus

Mr Tuscan owner - you must be connected to Westovers otherwise you would not have said what you just said!
No flaming intended but 3 out laps, 3 or may be 4 times in a day? I don't think so. They had something like 72 cars down there, they were queuing back to Chichester!!
But if thats what you want out of a day, thats cool. I'd like a little more track time for my pennies.

Did you actually *read* any of the earlier posts in this thread?
PS I see that every thread you've started recently has been promoting something that Westovers are doing. What is your connection with them?

Ahh, don't pick on the chap. He's been a member for 36 months and contributed a total of 6 posts. I'd hardly call that going overboard on the promotion.
Back to the topic. I'm concerned my 4.2 Cerbera, de-catted with standard back box will be too loud for track days. Any ideas? Can I check this before going to a track day or is it very much up to the testing equipment on the day?
well what a suprise reaction to my posting and to answer your questions yes i do have a connection to westovers inso far as i own a tuscan they service and repair it and do a fantastic job with it so knock me down for singing the praises of a dealership that deserves good positive comments!!!!! it seems everyones to quick to say negative comments all the time?

Why not carry some slip on silencers? I found a pair of 5 inch Supertrapps took my then decatted Cerb 4.5 with an aging standard backbox which read at 105db down to 98db.
Alternatively Joolz fits intermediate silencers that do the job full time. I eventually went this route and it brought my Cerb down to 93db.

Cheers, I'll look into it.
