The race spec Ultima at Donington on Nov 1st
Discussion
James,
I saw what happened very clearly. The red Ruf was on the racing line on the straight and was overhauling the Ultima very rapidly. At the end of the straight the Ultima cut sharply across onto the racing line and the Ruf driver took evasive action, going onto the shoulder and in my view very skilfully avoiding a very nasty accident. I thought it was clear that the Ultima driver did not realise that the Ruf was there and I think an apology would be in order.

I knew that the Porsche was behind me, as I had seen him coming onto the straight. However, he was a long way back when I saw him, and I was coming into the braking zone, so I needed to pull over to get on the racing line. Being a track day, and having been told that no overtaking was allowed in the braking zone, I had assumed he would slow down and go past on the next straight.
If he was so skilful, he would have been abiding by track day regs, and not thinking he was some sort of racing driver on a mission.
Track days are for fun. If you want to race, get an ARDS test and put some numbers on the car. Just as a point of order here. If he'd done that sort of manoeuvre in a race and been collected, he'd have been the one explaining himself to the stewards, as it was my line coming into the corner.
I'm quite happy to accept his apology any time he wants to make one.

I don't know myself.
I was prepared to let it go as one of those things that happen on track days, or I'd have gone up to the guy then and there (as I've done on previous occasions for a word in somebodies shell like).
However, if he wants to start discussing things on a public forum, I'm going to tell it how it was.

It is very easy to create a new profile to back up your story online....
adamt - the organisers usually explicitly tell you to discuss any concerns with them on the day, and NOT bring it up online later, for exactly this reason.
Was the Ultima indicating and and obviously pulling over? Doesn't sound like it - I certainly wouldn't want to be out on track with you. Or, if these rules weren't made clear at the beginning of the day, I wouldn't want to use that organiser.
