Does anyone have any ideas of the prices for renting a prepared car for a track day?

What price are the cheapest track days?

Just need some ideas for my cunning evil plans, thankyou

Bookatrack will rent you a car for a half day or a full day. Pug GTi is £300 for a day and a Caterham Superlight £500. Track Day fees are on top of that but you never know - you might get a discount if there aren't many people on the day and they haven't rented the car out...

There are other firms doing it too - but those prices seem competetive. After all - you *will* be wearing out consumables at a rate of knots.

I believe that the rental price includes insurance with a 1K excess - driver who breaks it pays.

So with the Pug at £300 and £200+ trackday fees thats quite a bit of money for a couple of hours of track time.

Any other rental options out there?

Also keen to hear how low the cost of a track day can be with out the rental car.
I have heard a few horror stories of the cheap track days though so not sure what to do really.

Its not that much when you think about it.

If you hired Bookatracks Pug by yourself you would probablt spend 30-35 mins of every hour hooning about...the car would not take much more (or they tyres)

But, if you shared it you would spend 20mins each per hour hooning...not much less, plus you get a break (you need it coz it aint got power steering and it aches after a while!)

So if you and a mate did it at Donnington its £200 fot the car plus £170ish for the track (not each, second drivers are free).
Total cost about £185. Go to an airfield and its £150 each.
And to think you probably use £50 worth of Optimax in a day.

Re:Hiring a car
Donnington is quite close to Easy Midlands Airport you know

Dusty,

We're expanding our car hire business considerably for 2004. This will not only bring the prices down but will increase flexibility and availability. I cant see anyone being able to compete with our prices once we're up and running.

Ironically, insurance aside, the Pug actually costs more to hire out that the caterham, that 1.9 is a right guzzler and the tyres tend to get chewed up a lot more, too.

You can get the Superlight rental price down if you accept a higher insurance excess as well.

I'm currently getting the Superlight plus any trackday I want for £400 a day - but that assumes you pay for 5 track days in advance (i.e. £2k) to qualify for the discount and you have a £2500 insurance excess.

If you do a one-off event you should be able to get the Superlight for £400 for the day (plus the £100-£150 for the track day).

I've just done an Elvington day in it and had about 40 minutes per hour for 6 hours (total track time 4 hours) and went through 4 tyres - if I had been fitter/lighter I think I could have managed the full 6 hours. With another driver the cost halves and although you get half the time, you soon find out that 30 minutes is enough between sessions and gives you time to rest, eat, drink, wee, chat, passenger, etc.

If I did the same (as I used to) in my normal car then the cost of the tyres alone would be £300. The petrol would be £100, the track day £100 and the insurance £150 - total of £650.

It made a lot of sense to me, and it saves me worrying about damaging my car and not being able to get to work either.

Feel free to email me more information about this.
ould like to see theprice list for next year and book up a trackday and car.

Thanks for your info everyone. Keep it coming.
The reason I ask about cheap trackdays is because I have always condsidered buying a cheap road car thats suitable for the track (In fact I have one but it needs minor fettling to get it trackable and would prefer a RWD one really).

Jonny - Personally a RWD car would be the most attractive one to offer for a resonable price. A lot of people out there want to learn how to use a RWD car and it would provide an excellent opportunity, a cheaper older Westy perhaps?

Andrew,

Not in the short-term. Though I still want to have a Radinail on the fleet at some point in the future.

Mike,

Not sure you will when you find out what it's going to cost to hire it out! We're looking at circa £1250 for a day!

£1250 a day? That sounds strictly one for Don

Get a couple of 968CSs in the fleet, Jonny.

Domster,

Compare the cost of running a relatively lardy 968 with a positively featherlight caterham and you'll soon see why its far more cost effective to hire a caterham out than a porker. wear rate and replacement cost of tyres, brakes etc are all far far lower for the CaT.

Also there's crash damage - caterhams are like mechano sets! porkers less so :-(

Finally - logistics, its much more difficult getting porkers around the country than CaT's
