Was great fun last year. I'd suggest taking an M3, they looked by far the most controllable.

I have loads of pics here www.pbase.com/srider/sideways_challenge_2002

I'm glad events like this exist.
Totally stupid but an excuse to drive sideways and give it all to charity. See you there!

I have paid my £50 and can't wait. Good job I bought the cheap Kuomo tyres for my M5 as it is now officially the worlds most oversteery car, on another point does anyone know anywhere to practice this sort of thing in relative safety(old airfield etc) near London?

If you find out, let me know! I fancy giving this a go..... but practicing on a dual carriageway is a bit antisocial

I'm running the event (I work for Autocar).

To be honest, most of the rules are in the original post. That's to say, there aren't many. Basically we get a load of professional drivers and a load of amateurs and we ask them all to drive through the brooklands complex as sideways as they possibly can. We'll be awarding points for style, you'll be watched by a huge crowd and the cameras from "pulling power" and you can feel good for donating 50 notes to charity.

If you're any good, you could get all the way to the final, if you're not you'll be sent for an early bath. It really is this simple. Even if you don't fancy driving, why not just come along and watch; only £10 after all.

More announcements to follow on drivers but among the current confirmations we've got Justin Wilson in an XKR-R, Mark Higgins, Pente Arrikala, Gavan Kershaw, Tiff Needell, Guy Smith, most of the current BTCC line up, Don Palmer and loads of others. The Autocar boys (Sutcliffe, Harris et al) will also be doing their thing.

It'll be a giggle, but if you fancy your chances then hurry. Participant places are strictly limited and we're 75% full already.

Do we get to do a lap of Silverstone as well?? (or more than one if we're any good)

Gonna practice some drifting now .. anyone got a spare runway I can use?

I went last year.

Excellent fun and it was free

As said above the M3 was the daddy of the day
A 16 year old won the amateur class in his dads old M635 Beemer.
Derek Bell doing donuts in a Bently turbo
MG display team doing all manner or tricks
Jason Plato? getting a hearse sideways
the list goes on!

If you can make it go, its really a great day out

I was in the back of the hearse. Hilarious.

I was with Jason yesterday on a job and he is planning his attack for this year.

It wasn't free though Rob, unless you just walked in! It's all for charidee after all...

Oh my god what have I done???

Looks like I've entered in my little Mazda Turbo, I'm probably a bit disadvantaged as I've got 4wd but it does have a rear LSD & I'll be pumping the rear rubber up somewhat to unleash the assend.

I'm often told off at trackdays for being a bit lary so here's a chance to do it with encouragement.....here comes the gravel trap

Give us a cheer if your there,
