I was there till my gbox stopped playing at about noon. Was quite a fun day, better than expected. I thought the overtaking instructions were a little vague in the briefing. He didnt say don't overtake without the car in front's consent (well not when I was listening). So there was some more liberal overtaking going on (mostly by me I hasten to add!).

Anyone see that blue track-day-thing (NOT the Gumpert - what a great name) that had gone up in flames?

Bert

Seems you weren't alone in the breakages' department then, my Sierra blue a gasket/seal just before the end of the morning session and I was relegated to walking the pits. Still had an excellent day! Yes the Gumpert was impressive, but the Ford GT's and the WTC BMW's sound was something to behold! Fantastic selection of cars - can't wait for the photo's to come through from TRC magazine.

Yeah, I saw the remains of the blue thing on fire, ouch!

Shame about the Sierra, you were going really well until then...

Didnt like that apollo thing really, as susser would say very point and squirt, not fast in the corners. We were there all afternoon and evening! Good news about the Sierra Sean, the only problem was a blown pipe - the AA man who picked me up outside of Brands cobbled together a repair once he had cleaned off all the gunge and disassembled half the hoses. Got to get a proper replacement from the American parts suppliers which may take a little time. Also a big thank you goes to MSV who allowed someone to take over my afternoon session.

Pity I missed the person with the Wedge. I wanted to go and absorb some wedgie ness in the paddock, but he'd gone by the time we'd dragged pegleg pete (AKA Jonny_UK) there;

I think that with GoldTrack being the one exception, overtaking instructions are vague and rarely followed anyway. Having too many cars on the small track did not help either. In fact, one of the worst culprits was the M5 safety cars. I was there to learn the track and the last thing you want is to find a faster car pushing you aside - literally.
On the other hand, it just as annoying when you are quicker then someone in the corner (as started happening to me toward the end of the day) and he just pulls away with superior BHP just to slow you down the next corner.

I thought the overtaking was much the same as usual Trackday stuff;
I'm sure a lot of people fail to hear the overtaking rules at drivers' briefing. You have to watch your mirrors.
I would like those people who go for overtakes at corner entries to be blackflagged and spoken to. It's the only way, I think.
When I find the difference in corner speeds/straight line speeds to be a problem, I will usually back off and get myself some track space, if the obstuctor won't let me past.
It can be a problem with the different speed of my Caterham with something like a Skyline/Scooby etc.

I agree that the GoldTrack days are a very different thing.

That was only my second track day, previous one at Brands also, but I was getting very frustrated by certain hot heads (thats not what I called them at the time) that were treating it as a full on race and driving flat out.
It was clearly stated in the briefing that overtaking should only be on the straights, not at corners, and that each driver should be responsible for not endangering the car in front (or something to that effect).

In the morning I was enjoying learning the track, building up confidence and pace through the corners on the racing line. As the day went on things started to get pretty mad out there, in the end I had to give up following the racing line and had to just stay on the right most of the time as certain individuals were coming straight at me, in corners and one occasion I saw someone billowing tyre smoke as he locked up, must have been appoarching flat out and expected me and the car behind me to immediately move over so he nearly took us both out.

In the end I gave up as I was there to have fun driving my cerbera and build up my track skills and confidence, but I was not prepared to risk stacking her into a barrier trying to out manoeuvre some jap 4wd with electronic torque sensing diffs etc. Come to think of it I did not have any problems being forced off the racing line by the majority of faster traffic!
