VMAX Thunders On

Supercars + Two mile straight = fun for all

Those of you that peruse Pistonheads TV will have noticed lots of videos from the VMAX meets – well one took place on Sunday and achieved some awesomely fast results.

The top three from Sunday were:

9ff 997 Cab                                           211mph

DMS 996 GT2                                         202mph

996 Turbo S Cab (Weltmeister'd ECU)         191mph & 183mph roofless

How much fun can you have with a two mile straight?
How much fun can you have with a two mile straight?
VMAX was founded by Craig Williams, who saw that increasing numbers of speed cameras and vans were limiting drivers’ opportunity to really use their performance cars abilities.

He then got together with a group of likeminded people and booked the Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground to have a play.

The two mile straight provides a great chance to send cars to the upper reaches of their speedos.

The event isn’t limited to the straight, though. After Vmaxing their cars, the drivers then go on to the main track and enjoy the twists and turns on offer while the adrenaline is pumping…

The next event is in October, with an exact date to be confirmed. For more info go to www.vmax15000bhp.com. Also, go to Pistonheads TV and have a look at videos from the previous events

Those pesky Porsches always seem to do very well.

Well done those men! The event sounds fun, I would love to attend in future.

What bhp and what Datsun? Aerodynamics make a HUGE difference above 150mph so big bhp is needed to crack 200.

Big bhp and/or great aerodynamics. One of these will do 265mph with only 340hp. And 9G in the corners, despite a lack of mechanical grip laugh

Indeed. I once read that an E36 BMW M3 Evo is geared for a theoretical VMax of about 211mph, but would, with the electronic limiter removed, top-out at about 180 due to wind resistance, and that to reach the magical 211 it would need an extra 400bhp!

simplified:
v_max ~ (P/(c_w A))^(1/3)

So, eight times the power will double the speed.
Or reduce the drag, if stability doesn't matter because you are the stig.

Yeah - I wanna see if my R registered Renault Scenic will top 73mph. A mile and a half should be enough to get to 60, but 70+? Gonna need somthing longer than 2 miles
