Nurburgring Lap 8mins 10 seconds 996tt
Discussion
here is a lap I did last month at the Ring - 8 mins 10 seconds - and was held up by a few cars and I slowed up so that my mate could pass me so that I could video him .

The car has Bilstein PSS9 coilover suspension and H&R adjustable suspension, and is running Michelin Pilot Cup tyres.
My Brakes are GT3 6-pots with Brembo floating discs at the front, but was running standard porsche pads - I have just had Pagid orange (RS4) fitted.
It does grip well, but I had the dampers set at a hard setting and my roll bars at medium setting.
I have now gone slightly softer all round and stiffened up the rear anti roll bar.
I am back at the Ring on 25th and 26th August (3rd trip) hoping to do another ten laps.

Smooth driving & great coverage. Your mate was a little ragged - a little too hot on some entries & a bit late in changing down & rebalancing the car. You obviously had your camera fixed to hardpoint - did you seek permission to film or just risk it?

Nice lap there jj996, having just returned from my first visit this w/e just gone I can't believe how quiet it was when you were there in comparison.
It was bedlam on the track due to the number of cars and bikes and a number of nasty looking spills, hope everyone was ok..
Having said that I can't wait to go back!

Well it makes my shakey efforts hand-holding a camera look decidedly amateurish!
I've only been to the 'Ring once (Circuit Days Oct'06) - with my brother in his 240 bhp (GTT/Hartge)Cooper S - and we had to work hard to use all the power & carry as much corner speed as we dared. By comparison your lap in a really powerful car seems so much more relaxed.
The Mini was a frenetic drive - Quaife diff, l/w flywheel, rose-jointed upper & lower control arms, rose-jointed drop links, PSS9, Eibach front bar, Alta rear bar, camberplates, powerflex bushes, Tarox 10-pots & 18" OZ Superleggaras. Unfortunately the lap we videoed (borrowed camera) my brother lost it at Schwedenkreuz, we went down the grass on the inside of the corner 90 degrees to the track, stayed off the armco, got the thing straightened out & carried on. Albeit with a little more caution & some mud in the tyres! Everyone told us how lucky we were - not a scratch on man nor machine. I've subsequently analysed the video & despite what other people have concluded from the video he didn't lose it by taking the inside kerb, I think he took the kerb AFTER he lost it.
He thinks he might have been changing into fifth over the hump & that unsettled the car? The mini is now with him in NZ & I'm going to develop my 951 for a bit of weekend fun.
Here's our poorly filmed lap:

How luck to not crash at Schwedenkreuz , Its one area that I really back off from, i could shave a few seconds by going flat through there, but my conscious won't allow me to !!I've only been to the 'Ring once (Circuit Days Oct'06) - with my brother in his 240 bhp (GTT/Hartge)Cooper S - and we had to work hard to use all the power & carry as much corner speed as we dared. jj996 - you'd be mad to take it flat in a 580 bhp car! One of the experienced 'Ringers on the Nurburgring 700 (Oct '06) reckoned that 115 mph was the limit through Schwedenkreuz in a road car. No doubt someone will post that they've been through there at 140! I was advised that the line is to stay reasonably mid-track through the apex. Because of the speed of the corner unfortunately there have been a number of fatalities there so it's not one to take lightly. Nowhere on the 'Ring should be taken lightly! The Mini was set-up to be oversteery - fine if you're over-doing it at Bedford through a 50 mph corner - but snap oversteer can be more than an unwelcome inconvenience at three-figure speeds at the 'Ring. With your car's power self-restraint would be the order of the day. Is its straight line performance proportionately matched by its cornering grip? That oft quoted advice from a 'Ring marshall may now have lapsed into cliche' but it remains sage advice "On Touristenfahrten days you cannot win, you can only lose!"

That's so you exit on the left side of the track and can brake in a straight line for Aremburg. The line in that video took an entry in the middle of the track, an apex near the curb, and according to your other thread, a gear change on the bump. LexSport said:

That video made me jump even in the safety of my front room. Nice recovery!
Original video is excellent. Were you there 13/8? I was repeatedly overtaken by a pair of black 911s running at a similar speed to yourself.

That's was a really impressive lap - very smooth!
I've only been a passenger at the ring previously (and hope to head there next month myself). Did you say that this video was from your second trip only? You must have some prior track driving experience, no?
I have been to Croft a few times and Donnington, Cadwell and Silverstone. I would like to get into car racing, but unfortunately it costs too much!I've only been a passenger at the ring previously (and hope to head there next month myself). Nice Driving.
I hope to take my car to the 'ring once I pass my driving test (don't sound so shocked - I race karts).
Also why don't you have a go at karting, Formula Vee or even Formula Renault BARC if you want to start racing.
You can buy a new Formula Vee for £6800 with a season costing £5000, average lap speeds are 90-95 mph.
Although imo you can't beat karting for the money.
My first post btw cheers Paul.
