Lap Times - Bedford Autodrome
Discussion
only have run that circuit once about 3 months ago and was clocking about 3m 21s [CSL](by camcorder after the event)
i am back there next week and hopefully my shocking underachieving and over cautiousness can be put to one side and that can be bettered a little.

This course has changed very recently (within the last couple of months i think increasing the length by 0.6 miles) hence the lack of data but i did it last weekend in 3.35 in a Caymas S. GT3 did it in 3.33. Fantastic course IMHO. Enjoy.

That's an excellent time Shim - well done. I trust you were brandishing those cup tyres. There was a CSL there last week and it sounded great. Did you turn off your DTC? There were Z4Ms who just couldn't get their power down producing times of 3.45. In fact a 3litre did a 3.41 - shows how obtrusive the DTC was. I know driver skill comes into it but i know these people. I was only getting to 130mph on the straight and they were getting 145 so it goes to show the CS claws back it's time on the bends which is what it's all about IMHO. Needless to say, i was very impressed but with a Nurburgring time of 8.11 (which was the slower auto) i shouldn't have expected anything less. I could do with another 50 horses though i recon but would like another 100.
I must admit that i like the SW at Bedford more than the GT. Before is just handy for learning and practicing generally. Not that exciting really but what the hell. Better than looking after my kids!!
I have got the cups on Scotty. Weather forecast seems to be getting wetter every day so i might be taking some drifting lessons from you at this rate. Car is already packed up ready to go. Off to Hungary for F1 tomorrow (not that i am a big fan, pref the bikes to watch really) but something to do and once again keeps me away from the missus.

I was there on Saturday too in a blue Elise 135R (actually putting out 160bhp now) and I got round in 3:24. Haven't been round the new layout in my GT3 yet but it was about 8s quicker than the Elise on the old circuit, so I'd expect something like 3:16, probably a lot less with a decent driver.well at the last minute MSV switched us to the old GT circuit which was no bad thing really. They said they were doing some work to the grasscrete on the new section so we had to do without it.
Not the best BEdford day i9 have had. THe morning i thought was crowded (not numbers but different speed cars) which meant that it was very difficult to get one clear lap in.
Afternoon was a lot better and some space on track.
Looking at the camcorder the fastest times were around 2m 51secs to 2m 56secs but i think at least the GT3Rs and the quick 924 (red)were equalling that more often that i was clocking it.
Hope you got home ok Scotty and the missus didnt make you sleep in the pick-up!

I was at bedford yesterday - had a fantastic time - first time in my e55 estate - last time i was there i was in my 996 - the merc was far faster and my lap times were well under 3mins - may have got them down even further if the brakes had not kept overheating every 4 laps - but that the price to pay for trying to stop a 2 ton car from over 140 time and time again. The car certainlt suprised me with the way it handled and judging from the look on a few peoples faces - thers too.No wonder they use them for the f1!!
dave
you looked good!!
bedford certainly suits the heavier more powerful cars more than other tighter circuits apart from the break issue you will naturally get on road brakes.
the Mk1 mini that never got out on the track may have been better off in the pits as there were too many cars of differing speeds this week (in my opinion) which seemed to right itself in the afternoon a little.

Missus was fine as i'm paying for it, Booked in thursday to get front end and side skirts done, got to get a new bumper and some more flippers
I got lots (193) pictures from the photographer so will get some of them loaded up soon. The pictures were taken in sport mode so you can see them from start to finish through a corner!
