I should be going to this, anyone else on here going?

My first proper track day, is it worth paying the extra £25 for tuition?

I went to one (novice 1/2 day) earlier in the year at Oulton-fully recommend it! Had a great time and it was very well organised and not too busy on track. I did have the advantage of fantastic weather though, hope you get the same.

I didn't pay the £25 but when I go again (can't make 8th August) I might do, but I had a great time anyway. From my first visit I really just wanted to push my car to its limits and have some fun, which I did, and also just wanted to drive the track I've been spectating at since a boy. My brother used to race FF1600 there for many years so I did have some advice from him although he wasn't in the car with me.

On balance for me, I didn't miss the instructor on my first visit but when I go again I think I will go for it so I can try and improve my corner speed. I think you need someone next to you to reassuare you that you're not going too fast or perhaps that you should keep your foot down etc.

I've got a Mini (BMW) and they corner really well, so I kept pushing and pushing and pushing but the car's ability out-did my bravery, especially through Druids corner, so someone to push me along would have been a benefit I think.

Enjoy it!

I am tempted on this one, never done a trackday but been to the Nurburgring 3 times. I would go for some in car tuition

You may find my circuit guide useful if you are a first timer

In my opinion... paying the £25 for instruction will be the best £25 you have spent.

Each time I go to a new track I always book ½ hour's instruction... well worth it biggrin

Got my 964 back from it's service today with a clean bill of health so I've booked myself on the morning session with the instruction.

Any fellow Pistonheaders going?

Out of curiosity, is the instruction generally carried out in your own car or the circuit hack ?

No idea tbh, but seeing as it's only £25 I'm guessing it'll be something like about 20-30 mins in my own car?

Whatever it is I thought it worthwhile as this is my first trackday.

Should have mentioned I have booked the instruction too, £25 it seemed a no brainer as I have only spectated at Oulton.
But I could see 3 or 4 people put in a tin top for a couple of hot laps then possibly a lap each, or possibly not.....

Its usually 20 mins in your own car, with the instrctor pointing out the right lines, braking and turning points and giving suggestions on your driving style etc.

Well worth the cash in my experience.

yes

You can also, if you wanted to, book a 30 minute slot with the instructor towards the end of the day just to see whether or not you can improve in any way.

Only did the AM session, it was quite quiet so no problems getting back on and not lots of traffic.
Felt for the guy in Caterham 7 (BEC ?) who failed the noise test.
Did the instruction mid morning so it gave me chance to get a few laps under my belt first,
Well worth the £25.

Gareth
