Apologies for this, but I could do with some opinions.

I've now done 2 track days on what were a brand new set of Marangoni Vanto tyres on my 75. They get really good reviews in the press- scoring very highly for wet and dry grip whilst also scoring well with regards to wear.

However, after 2 days and around 600 miles, all 4 are shot.

I'd probably get away with doing a thousand or so road miles on them, but one more 20 min. session on the track would kill them.

They're 195/60/14 - not the most common size, but not uncommon, either.

In their favour, they're only 40 quid each, including fitting etc.

If I went for my usual choice of Pirelli P6000s, I suspect they may last a little longer, but not twice as long as the Marangonis for not far off twice the price, all-in.

Any ideas for cheap-ish tyres that *may* last a little longer than the Marangonis? - or should I just stick with them as I'm more than happy with how they behave on the car?

I am not suprised, as all you seemed to be doing was trying to go sideways at Colerne! biggrin You sure you don't want to do rally days rather then track days haha...

Depends on what you are trying to get from track days? Sideways is fun, but not fast smile

Fun is no. 1 priority.

Quick is nice, too.

I was going quick enough whilst having fun going sideways.

That'll do me.

Nevr heard of the rubber you mentioned, best in the wet generally considered to be Goodyear f1 & then Toyo T1s & old EVO blind test few yras ago said the same.

However as a cheap road tyres for tracking on Id recomend the good old Yoko A539, been loads of threads on it so no need to say more here, but its cheap, wear is great on track & is nice & progressive in its slip, not the best in the wet tho, but ive donea coupel of wet days on em & when good tread they are not that bad really.

How ever if its yr track only car, why pi$$ about with road rubber? in small sizes i.e 15 inch track day rubber is cheap & the grip diferences wet or dry is unbelivable vs road tyres.

I piss about with road rubber 'cos it's also a road car. I don't want to make it too 'track' orientated, as it does get used for runs up into the mountains some weekends.

I wouldn't have Yoko A539s as I've had them on an Alfa 33 16v and destroyed the fronts in 2.5k miles. They'd not last 5 minutes on a track.

Definitely not looking to spend 'premium' money - so it looks like I'll be getting some more Marangonis. (They're an Italian brand which gets very good reviews in Auto Bild and AutoItalia)

I thought you meant Rover 75 for a minute... hehe

I've had a lot of good fun with a set of bridgestone s02s on track ( http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/BRIDGESTONE/Pote... ). The fronts have done 6 trackdays and are still quite happy and i've been through a set of rears (in a 300bhp MR car).

I guess it comes down to budget.
