75 Experience - Nurburgring
Discussion
Yes, highly reccommend Ron and his Alfas. So long as you can see past the rust bucket facade, and the stifling carbon monoxide filled cabins, it is really great!
Be sure to pressure Ron into supplying a well set up car, with his suspension, track tyres and at least some form of braking system.
I was driving a couple last weekend and they are hilarious fun! Plus ron is a great instructer.

I really want to do it myself.
Would be quite nice to turn up in my own 75, do the experience in their cars, then spend the next day blatting around in my own.
Well I'm looking at Thursday Aug 9 - which is an exclusive (ie not TF) day - the following Sat and Sun are open all day for TF, so wil aim to stay til Sunday.Would be quite nice to turn up in my own 75, do the experience in their cars, then spend the next day blatting around in my own.
Its not cheap, but I reckon it should be good.
I've done it twice now and its definately saved me many wasted laps of learning the intracaces of the corners myself.
Well recomended.
The cars are a bit knackered but perfectly adequate and do vary quite a bit but Ron has plenty of spare cars...unless he has just had 2 or 3 wet days in which case options might be limited
Well worth it if you have reasonable ontrack experience in the UK or europe. An expensive and highly intimidating day out if you don't.
Well recomended.

Thanks. What do you mean by "reasonable ontrack experience"? I've driven the Nordschleife before (a handful of laps in my own car, and a similar number of pax laps) and done a few UK trackdays. Well recomended.

Ron will teach you to drive the ring properly, learning the line and recognising the braking and turning points, with some driving tips. If its driving coaching you want, do it somewhere safer than the ring.

Its learning the ring that I'm looking for (which is not to say that my driving doesn't need some tips as well ... )Robin C

I need to call the Ronmeister and see if I can organise some 1-2-1 wheel time with him....
I'd be *very* interested to find out how much 1-1 coaching with Ron costs. If I have any complaints about the time I did the 75 Experience, it's that you don't know who else is going to be in your group. There were times that someone a little "careful", shall we say, was directly behind the instructor (and hence the instructor was holding back to their pace). Unless it's possible to book on a 75 Experience group event with people who all have a certain level of experience so that all can concentrate on the finer intricacies, I'll probably go for 1-1 a few hours of 1-1 coaching over and above another Experience day.
I instruct with Ron.
The most successful students generally are those with a bit of track experience, as the Nordschleife is rather daunting and not the best place to be learning about apexes and the like. A good number of students are complete beginners, with absolutely no track experience at all. Some need remedial driver education to tell the truth...it can get interesting sitting next to them.
The course is a very cost effective way of learning the 'ring. If you write off one of the cars it will only set you back 3500 Euros, and minor damage such as a wing, bumper or tailight is very reasonable. Another plus is the fact that your armco bill is limited to 1500 Euros. Many vintage and historic racers use our services to prepare for their events on the Nordschleife rather than risk their own cars.
The cars are certainly long in the tooth, but the suspensions are optimised to give a really sharp turn in, and race car like handling. The whole point is that the cars handle very well and can be enjoyed by both the beginner and experienced race drivers alike. It is refreshing to drive a light, well balanced, rear wheel drive car without any electronic nannies looking over your shoulder.
Some people are put off by the appearence of the cars, but you would be surprised at some of the repeat customers, many of whom drive very expensive exotica on the road. These are lads who know a good bargain when they see it. They just keep coming back for more!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
