Track day recommendation (not in own car)
Discussion
Hi everyone.
My sister wants to buy a track day for her husband's birthday - end of July. She says he wont want to take his own car.
I've had a look on the web and there's a lot to choose from.
What does anyone recommend - he is especially interested in Porsches, so something that includes a 911/Caymen would be good. Around the £200 mark. They live in the Basingstoke area, Donington would be OK though as that is near family.
Cheers

For a one off track driving experience you cannot beat The Motorsport Sensation at Bedford -- it will cost about 3 times more than her budget though! -- but it is a full on day of driving, 7 different cars in timed situations will satisfy any petrolhead. Some driving experiences just do not deliver enough time behind the wheel, this one does.
More money but it will completely satisfy his interest and I guarantee it will make family life very happy!!

Andy,
As you say there are lots around. If you are looking at Donington then I assume you've been here :

They do a 911 experience which is well under budget. Although not advertised I think they also do an Ultimate Supercar day which includes the 911, Boxster S, Ferrari 360 and Lotus Elise. The same provider runs at Rockingham and Three Sisters (Wigan), here are the details.

What I would perhaps recommend, if you are thinking about either of the above and want to stick as close to your £200 as possible is to book the 911 experience for a fairly early slot, then, on the day you will find there are some spare places on offer on the other experiences at a substantial discount. You could either do a Ferrari 360/Lotus Elise or a Single Seater experience. Of the three, for something very different I'd recommend the single-seaters.
I can only comment on the above from experience of working for them (and others) as a freelance instructor. Most experience companies provide a similar product and the choice is often down to venue. Certainly I would give a totally unbiased thumbs up to Donington in that respect.

Just something to bear in mind, for £200 you'll get track "experiences" rather than proper trackdays, you won't get several hours or tracktime or be let out on your own to do your own thing like you'd get if hiring a car on a proper trackday, with these days (usually a half day) you'll generally just get a briefing etc then some laps in slower cars to learn the circuit before having a few laps in the "headline" cars with an instructor next to you.
